Title
Outpatient Pharmacy Tech Full time BMH Sign on Bonus available Under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist and according to policies and procedures, assists pharmacists in filling prescriptions and preparing IV admixtures by interpreting, transcribing, and preparing medication(s) for dispensing.
Fills orders with appropriate medications for review and approval by a Registered Pharmacist. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. .
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 3-6 months of experience and / or training in the hospital or elsewhere required.
If not previously trained, a 3-month formal training in pharmacy procedures is required.
Medical terminology course preferred.
Successful completion of Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Exam (PTCB) prior to hire.
Must be licensed in the State of Michigan as a pharmacy technician
Students enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy with a valid pharmacy intern license are not required to have the Pharmacy Technician Certification;
but the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Exam (PTCB) is required within one year after the date of hire.
- Skills in mathematics and basic algebra.
- Ability to read, interpret and analyze data from various systems and equipment in order to set an appropriate plan of action in coordination with the pharmacists.
- Effective communication skills to report and discuss findings, as needed with pharmacists, hospital personnel and external customers;
- Ability to foster a positive, professional working relationship with coworkers;
- Self-motivation; accuracy and initiative to complete routine and urgent tasks;
- Ability to effectively prioritize tasks within the constraints of stated objectives and to provide effective timely follow-up as needed.
Work which produces high levels of mental / visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time, the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time.
Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (i.e., 20 pounds or less) and assisting with heavier tasks such as assisting in lifting and moving patients.
Minor straining or fatiguing positions must be assumed, and some fatiguing physical motions are required.
Level I competencies : Must maintain PTCB certification
- Data entry
- Filling prescriptions
- Receive and process (sticker) order from wholesaler and put into inventory
- Answer telephone and retrieve messages from voicemail
- Look up meds in wholesaler ordering computer
- Refilling robot cells (if applicable)
- Give price estimates
- Print labels
- Do computer searches for patient information
- Pull medication outdates
- Run cash register and badge scanner
- Do 2 week return to stock meds that weren’t picked up
- Insurance reconciliations
- Maintains work areas and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and documents as required
