Summary : Seeking a strategic, results-oriented business development manager to drive strategy and identify and implement initiatives for the corporate, tax and financial services groups. This is an opportunity to be part of a collaborative culture, working with a dynamic global Marketing & Business Development team. This role reports to the Assistant Director for Business Development for Corporate and will work directly with practice group and industry group leaders, and with the broader Marketing and Business Development (BD) team to ensure effective client development, marketing, and external communications programs with the goal of growing revenues and building the firm's profile.
Responsibilities
- Planning : Develop and coordinate strategic business development plans for assigned groups, including fiscal year plans, individual goal statements, and specific initiatives; manage implementation and measure outcomes.
- Develop and monitor marketing & BD budgets for assigned practice groups.
- Support measurement and reporting of services to evaluate effectiveness and demonstrate value to the Firm.
- Business Development : Act as primary point of contact for practice group leadership and broader partnership; work with attorneys to implement BD initiatives and programs around new business generation with existing and new clients; prepare client pitch materials (RFP responses) and conduct prep sessions with attorneys; track win / loss record.
- Leverage Market Research to analyze opportunities and assist attorneys / groups for client meetings.
- Attend regular practice group meetings; report on BD activities and progress against plans; analyze monthly data on current workloads, new matters, and attorney activity.
- Coordinate with BD team on cross-practice and regional / industry initiatives; maintain and expand relationships with targeted clients via Relationship Manager program.
- Recommend thought leadership and CLE programs; lead integration of lateral attorneys within assigned groups.
- Counsel lawyers on personal BD goals and provide guidance for plan implementation; work with Public Relations on media opportunities.
- Marketing : Organize and manage events from concept to post-event follow-up; draft submissions for rankings and awards (e.g., Chambers); track practice experience and successes for materials, pitches, and bios; edit and produce marketing materials; develop content for websites and external communications; collaborate with Digital Marketing on campaigns; maintain segmented client / prospect lists.
- Identify sponsorship and speaking opportunities for conferences and seminars; support cross-practice initiatives; engage with events team for logistics.
- Training : Support training and development of Business Development Specialists, including pitch / proposal drafting, event planning, client alerts, content management, and activity tracking; provide practice group and attorney training on topics such as best practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications, or related field. MBA or JD a plus.Minimum of three years of experience in professional services marketing and business development; previous law firm experience is highly desirable.Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; demonstrated leadership and proactivity / initiative.High-energy, creativity, and value-added orientation; ability to juggle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.Experience with information technology and software for marketing the practice group, including websites, databases, and knowledge management tools.Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; Salesforce proficiency is a plus.Status : Exempt
Reports To : Assistant Director of Business Development, Corporate
Salary : $176,000 - $258,000 based on experience level and location.
Workplace Type : Hybrid (LA and SF)
