Job description

Overview

Senior Data Center Electrical Engineer, Special Projects role at Google. This position focuses on the design, implementation, and management of electrical systems for data centers, collaborating with cross-functional teams including the Engineer of Record (EOR) to ensure safety, reliability, and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert technical support to data center services and operations teams, defining mechanical system design requirements for multiple data center projects from inception to completion.
  • Develop, implement, and manage the mechanical designs at the site level, from basis of design through to the issuance of construction documents for new builds, infrastructure upgrades, and renovations.
  • Collaborate with the Engineer of Record (EOR) to respond to site-specific engineering RFIs and ensure alignment between Google's requirements and the overall design.
  • Own and manage site-level power system issues during project execution, collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve challenges.
  • Work with the core engineering team to provide site-specific requirements during the Basis of Design development and coordinate system-level schematics with the EOR.

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications : Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12 years of experience in mission critical facility design and construction environments.
  • 12 years of experience with mission-critical facilities and their electrical infrastructure.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time as required.
  • Preferred qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business or other relevant field or a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience in estimating, electrical design, operation, and commissioning of substations, switchgear, ATP / ATS, emergency power systems and their control systems, power monitoring, and electrical protection.
  • Experience in design, construction, and commissioning of high voltage substations, medium or low voltage electrical distribution systems, AC / DC systems, and power management or SCADA tools.
  • Experience working with data center equipment and environments (e.g., switchgear, generators, transformers, controls, security monitoring systems, fire safety systems).
  • Experience with medium voltage systems.

  • Compensation

    The US base salary range for this full-time position is $214,000-$302,000 plus bonus, equity, and benefits. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location; the recruiter will share the specific range for your location during hiring.

    Please note that compensation details reflect base salary only and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits.
