Summary
Under the general supervision of the Respiratory Care Management team, and following standard policies and procedures, performs a variety of diagnostic pulmonary function tests on patients using spirometers, gas analyzers, oximeters, and other equipment to evaluate and test for lung disease. When assisting a physician, obtains washing samples, tissue samples, and performs other procedures within the lung using bronchosopes, biopsy forceps, and related instruments.

Responsibilities
Routine pulmonary function studies using spirometer, body box, and gas analyzer to measure flow rates.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of high school plus an AMA-approved Associate or Bachelor Degree Respiratory Therapy program.
Certifications and Licensing
Certified or registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care and licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State of Rhode Island. Knowledge of test procedures and reactions of patients while undergoing test procedures, and demonstrated skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. Preferred : credentialed by the NBRC as a Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) or a Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT). If hired without the CPFT or RPFT credential, the individual must obtain and maintain the CPFT within six months of hire.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Works in a patient care environment requiring both physical and mental effort to interact with patients, families, and various levels of hospital staff. Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking. Exposure to different types of patient elements. May be required to lift / turn patients and equipment. Repeated bending, squatting, and stooping may be required. Sufficient visual acuity and manual dexterity to use a keyboard and other common office equipment.
