Position Summary
As a Senior Reliability Engineer at SiLC, you will own SiLC's reliability program for FMCW LiDAR modules and assemblies and lead hands-on failure analysis of prototypes and field returns. This senior role combines proactive reliability work (requirements, test planning, reliability modeling, FMEA / DfR) with practical lab FA using optical inspection, thermal characterization, and opto-electrical diagnostics to find root causes and drive CAPAs across design, test, manufacturing, and suppliers.
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end reliability for SiLC FMCW LiDAR modules and assemblies : set MTBF / MTTF / availability targets, define acceptance criteria, and maintain the reliability growth plan.
- Lead hands-on failure triage and root-cause investigations for prototypes and field returns using optical inspection, thermal characterization, and opto-electrical diagnostics produce clear RCA / FRACAS reports.
- Design and execute validation and screening campaigns (HALT / HASS, ALT, thermal cycling, vibration, humidity, and EOL / ATE screening) tailored to photonic / electro-optical systems.
- Run and interpret reliability analyses and risk assessments (Weibull, RBD / FTA, FMEA / FMECA, Monte Carlo); convert risk into prioritized design / test mitigations.
- Drive CAPA end-to-end : propose design / process / supplier fixes, implement controls and production screens, and verify effectiveness with measurable metrics.
- Specify, acquire, and validate lab / test equipment and fixtures (thermal profilers, environmental chambers, optical test gear, ATE hooks) to enable reproducible FA and reliability campaigns.
- Correlate field logs, firmware / test traces, and production records (lot / BOM / process) to reproduce failures, identify systemic causes, and reduce time-to-root-cause.
- Mentor junior engineers / technicians, document FA workflows and safety / handling procedures for photonic parts, and present reliability KPIs and status to leadership.
Qualifications
BS / MS / PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field, with 3+ years of professional experience in reliability engineering and hands-on failure analysis for complex electro-optical or electromechanical productsProven hands-on FA skills using optical inspection, thermal characterization, and opto-electrical diagnostics (oscilloscopes, optical power / meters, optical spectrum / analysis, beat-frequency / heterodyne checks, thermal probes / profilers, environmental chambers).Strong reliability engineering background : Weibull / statistical analysis, FMEA / FMECA, reliability block diagrams / FTA, HALT / HASS / ALT design, and reliability growth planning.Practical experience designing and executing validation and screening campaigns (thermal cycling, vibration, humidity, HALT / HASS, EOL / ATE screening) for photonic / electro-optical systems.Demonstrated ability to perform RCA and drive CAPA end-to-end : write clear RCA / FRACAS reports, propose design / process / supplier fixes, implement production controls, and verify effectiveness with metrics.Solid data skills for correlating field logs, test traces, and production data comfortable with Python, MATLAB, R, or SQL for data analysis and automating test-data ingestion.Experience specifying, qualifying, and maintaining lab / test equipment and fixtures (thermal profilers, environmental chambers, vibration tables, optical test gear, ATE interfaces); ability to evaluate and manage external FA vendors / contract labs.Excellent communication and leadership skills : able to present reliability status to leadership, mentor junior engineers / technicians, and lead cross-functional corrective actions; able to travel to suppliers / contract labs as needed.Compensation
