NELSON is seeking a Technical Designer II to join the Civic & Justice Practice . The Technical Designer II is responsible for construction documentation and working with the project team to assist overall efforts of completing various project phases. The Technical Designer II provides support primarily in project administration, design development, and drawing production in all phases.
Experience in Civic & Justice building typologies is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate has experience working on projects such as Correction facilities, Jails, Prisons, Detention Centers, Courthouses, etc. Other preferred experience includes : municipalities, police and fire stations, city and county buildings, and other public works / public safety buildings.

Complete small construction document sets using predetermined client standards and templatesAssist team members while conducting field surveys as requiredCreate basic details ability to document common architectural systemsAssist in the preparation of construction documents and specificationsAssist in the mapping out construction document requirementsIdentify code requirements for common architectural systems, life safety, and ADABasic knowledge of project budget and schedules and responsibility to adhere to set parametersAbility to work more independently on smaller projects and with supervision on larger more complex projectsProvide material, product, and system research and compile project dataOrder samples and create material boardsUpdate design documents and incorporate "red lines" as neededPrepare Addenda and Bulletin documentationMaintain and update rack sets and projects recordsPlot / Prepare drawings for digital transmittance to consultants, clients and / or contractorLog Shop Drawings and assist in Shop Drawing comment translationFollow NELSON standards and guidelines in the preparation of deliverablesReview your own work and make corrections prior completing an assignmentMaintain and archive electronic project filesProvide project administrative back-up (make copies, scanning documents, prepare packages for shipping, etc.) as requiredAssist in the programming phases as directedAssist with the schematic phases as directed (sketching, input of sketches, modification of schematic test fit plans, etc.)Embrace specific steps to create, develop and promote a diverse workforce and to promote an inclusive environmentRequired Knowledge and Skills :
Basic knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, materials application and manufacturer-supplier appropriatenessBasic knowledge of design techniques, tools, and processes involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and modelsBasic understanding of building regulations, life safety codes and ADA requirementsBasic understanding of the construction processBasic understanding of project budgets and schedulesBasic knowledge of design techniques, tools, and processes involved in production of Construction DocumentsBasic knowledge of the construction process as it relates to the drawings being producedAbility to hand draw and sketchAbility to communicate effectively. both verbally and in writingAbility to organize and prioritize tasks as needed to complete within the identified time frame.Ability to prioritize and effectively meet deadlines and provide high quality service to clientsProficiency in AutoCAD / Architectural Desktop and Revit are requiredBasic knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign graphic software preferredBasic proficiency in Deltek Vision VantagePointQualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Architectural Drafting, or related fieldHighly proficient in both Revit and AutoCAD5+ years' experience working in the field of ArchitectureMust be deadline-orientedStrong attention to detailArchitectural experience in : Community, Civic, Justice, and Education is strongly preferred, with experience in the production of challenging technical drawings.Experience in Justice and Civic building typologies is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate has experience working on projects such as : Correction facilities, Jails, Prisons, Detention Centers, Courthouses, etc. Other preferred experience includes : municipalities, police and fire stations, city and county buildings, and other public works / public safety buildings.Familiarity with Photoshop and / or InDesign preferredNational salary range (regional cost of living, years of relevant experience, certifications, etc. are considered into the hiring process) : $60,000 - $90,000; contingent upon relevant experience. Additional compensation includes bonuses and benefits. Bonuses can include but are not limited to : Long Term Incentive Plan, Short Term Incentive Plan, Profit Sharing
