Equipment and Controls Technician
Position Description : The Equipment and Controls Technician (E&C Tech) is based out of Kinder Morgan's Tennessee Gas Pipeline (TGP) Libertyville Compressor Station. This Monday to Friday position includes on-call responsibilities nights and weekends. Primary Purpose
Implements and maintains electrical power circuits and equipment, control and automation systems, electronic and pneumatic equipment used in pipeline, compressor stations, terminals, pump stations, plant operations and measurement facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, inspect, maintain, operate, troubleshoot, repair and calibrate mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical and electronic equipment; maintain documentation.
- Perform preventative maintenance checks on pumps, compressors, drivers, and auxiliary equipment.
- Perform Inspection and Maintenance (I&M) checks on all control systems.
- Identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns.
- Work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, regulatory and tariff requirements.
- Demonstrate performance toward operational excellence.
- Mentor fellow employees when opportunity presents itself.
- Maintain electrical switch gear and power distribution.
- Perform advanced engine / compressor / pump analytical testing; lead efforts to develop and implement changes based on testing.
- Assist Corrosion and Engineering personnel with evaluation and implementation of facility grounding systems.
- Install, analyze and repair security / intrusion systems.
- General upkeep and maintenance of all facilities and equipment as needed.
- Oversee construction and / or maintenance activities performed by third parties.
Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Associate Degree in a technical field or equivalent work experience.Experience and Knowledge
Working knowledge of National Electric Codes.Proficient with electronic test instruments.Knowledge of process controls and gas processing fundamentals.Experience preparing and reading electrical and mechanical blueprints and diagrams.Experience applying measurement instruments results (voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter, oscilloscope).Knowledge of company policies, practices, regulatory and tariff requirements.Certifications, Licenses and Registrations
Valid driver's license with satisfactory record.Commercial driver's license may be required.Required to maintain certifications as required for duties.Competencies, Skills and Abilities
Respond to callouts and emergencies within 45 minutes after business hours including during dark hours.Travel required; overtime may be required.Job planning and prioritizing.Intermediate computer skills (MS Office, operating systems).Basic math skills and strong verbal and written communication.Customer focus and teamwork.Working Conditions / Physical Demands
Must withstand extreme weather conditions.Frequent entry into confined spaces, climb to elevated platforms, ladders, stairwells.Lift minimum 20 pounds awkwardly; lift 50 pounds from floor to waist occasional.May work in low-lit areas; available for shift work when applicable.Preferred Experience
5 years operating and maintaining treating plants and compressors.Experience safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquids and high pressure systems.Experience with electronic equipment, high pressure gas, processing equipment, pumps and reciprocating or gas turbine engines and compressors.Knowledge of Wonderware software.Equal Opportunity Employer Statement
