Highway Maintenance Technician II

This position will be responsible for maintaining the state roadway system. The successful candidate will have the following required knowledge, skills, and abilities :
- Knowledge of typical construction measuring tools, equipment, or instruments and standard safety techniques.
- Skills in operating a variety of hand and power tools.
- Ability to read and understand job related materials and fill out reports and forms.
- Ability to maintain and repair highways, bridges and / or other highway structures.
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, including following oral / written instructions.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, on various terrains and at various heights or in high volume traffic.
- Ability to stand for an extended period of time.
- Ability to operate motor vehicles and other mechanical equipment.
Other job-related requirements include :
Responding to emergencies.Being readily available to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) consistent with the type of commercial driver's license (CDL) the incumbent is required to possess.Working with or around Department of Corrections inmates.Obtaining certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) - Intermediate Level within one year and maintaining it.Possessing a valid Class "E" driver's license and obtaining a Class "B" CDL with air brakes within 10 months of appointment to the position.Minimum qualifications include :
