JOB PURPOSE :

The Archivist processes archival records using standard archival procedures and policies of arranging, describing and preserving official university records. The incumbent answers reference questions from the Howard University community and external historians, scholars, and researchers.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY :

Responsible for supervising the work of student employees and volunteers in processing and reference duties.

NATURE AND SCOPE :

Internal contacts include the Howard University community of faculty, staff, and students, as well as researchers, visiting scholars, and other patrons of the Moorland-Spingarn Research Center.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

Graduate degree in a humanities or social science field, preferably History, from an accredited institution, OR masters degree from an ALA-accredited institution in Library and Information Science with a concentration in archives and / or records management. At least three (3) years of professional archival experience. Demonstrated ability and initiative in reference, instruction, and outreach.

Compliance Salary Range Disclosure

$70,000-80,000 Annually
