Job Summary
Under general supervision, carries out duties in accordance with established policies and procedures; exercises limited-to-moderate independent judgement, discretion, and initiative in the performance of duties. Interacts frequently with external public and department personnel. Involved in community policing. Receives emergency calls from the public and dispatches police or contacts other emergency agencies, as appropriate. Also, provides administrative support to the Police Department and Municipal Court.

Job Qualifications
Formal Education : High school diploma or equivalent. Relatable Work Experience : Sound working knowledge of department dispatch and communications policies, procedures, and practices; related City ordinances and state and federal laws; and pertinent jurisdictions for police and fire services. Trainings, Licenses, and Certifications : Must qualify for and obtain TLETS and TCIC / NCIC Terminal Operator Certification within six (6) months of employment. Qualify for and obtain Basic Telecommunicator Proficiency Certificate for Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) within twelve (12) months of employment. Preferred Qualifications : Previous law enforcement experience.

One year of full-time experience is define as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed & Environmental Factors and Other Physical Requirements
Knowledge of department dispatch / communications policies, procedures, and practices; related City ordinances and state and federal laws; and pertinent jurisdictions for police and fire services. Knowledge with general office procedures / processes and specific departmental procedures. Skill in utilizing a personal computer, associated software programs, including Windows and Microsoft Office applications. Ability to quickly establish priorities while performing multiple tasks and work calmly under stressful conditions. Ability to establish and maintain professionally effective relationships with external public / vendors, internal management and non-management employees, and City and other government officials. Ability to develop, implement, and administer goals, objectives, and procedures for providing effective and efficient services for the City. Ability to effectively operate radio and other communication devices, computer and related department software, and typical office equipment, such as keyboards, calculators, copy machines, cameras and fax machines. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, as well as strong time and task management skills. Subject to sitting and standing to perform essential functions in an office environment. Visual acuity, speech, and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate office equipment. Ability to work various shift assignments, as assigned; may be assigned to work night shifts, weekends, and holidays; overtime occasionally required. Occasionally strenuous physical activity, such as stooping, kneeling, bending, pushing / pulling; lifting 35 lbs. Extended periods of time seated at console or desk. Satisfactory physical, psychiatric, and drug testing results, as prescribed by department standards.
