Observation Medicine Fellowship

Emergency Care Specialists, P.C. are excited to offer a one-year, non-ACGME accredited, observation medicine fellowship. Applications are accepted for ABEM or AOBEM board-certified or board-eligible Emergency Medicine (EM) physicians. Our program is located in Grand Rapids, the second-largest city in Michigan, with more than 65,000 undergraduate and graduate students and a rapidly expanding population. Butterworth Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center with more than 110,000 emergency department visits annually. Butterworth Hospital earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Heart-Check mark for Advanced Certification for Comprehensive Stroke Centers. In addition, Butterworth Hospital has a 25-bed dedicated observation unit. The observation unit has been operating for over 14 years, has an average census of 600 visits per month, and has an average length of stay of less than 24 hours. A fellowship in observation medicine prepares emergency physicians to lead clinical care, quality improvement, and clinical operations outside of the emergency phase of care. The specialty of observation medicine is growing as a solution to improve patient throughput and provide efficient use of health care resources by developing effective patient flow processes and evidence-based clinical protocols. Physicians who complete an observation medicine fellowship will be well prepared for both clinical and administrative leadership. MUST HAVE

• Michigan Medical License.
• DEA licensure, ACLS certification, and PALS certification.
• Must be able to relocate or reliably commute to Grand Rapids, MI
