The Safety Coordinator will use Cannon's established safety plan templates and work directly with project managers and directors to gather project scope details, then develop polished safety submissions for review. This position is documentation-focused - ensuring that every safety plan is accurate, professional, and complete.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete project-specific safety plans using Cannon's templates (APP, SSSP, AHAs, Fall Protection Plans, Lift Plans, and other required safety documents).
  • Research and apply federal safety requirements (EM 385-1-1, NAVFAC, USACE, OSHA) to ensure compliance.
  • Incorporate project scope details provided by PMs / Directors, tailoring plans to the unique hazards and requirements of each project.
  • Proofread, format, and finalize documents in Microsoft Word to ensure accuracy, consistency, and professional presentation.
  • Maintain revision logs, version control, and tracking systems for all safety documents.

Compliance & Quality Control

  • Act as the central point for safety documentation compliance.
  • Review each plan against compliance checklists to confirm all requirements are met.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to resolve gaps or missing details before submission.
  • Support audits and client reviews of safety plans.
  • Collaboration & Support

  • Partner with PMs and Directors to gather scope information and integrate project-specific details into safety plans.
  • Provide guidance on document requirements, formatting standards, and compliance expectations.
  • Assist with training field staff on safety documentation where required.
  • Qualifications

    Required

  • Strong critical thinking and logic skills - able to understand requirements and apply them consistently.
  • Creative writing and editing skills to clearly explain safety concepts in professional documents.
  • Ability to conduct research on plan requirements using federal safety standards and client specifications.
  • Attention to detail - skilled at proofreading, formatting, and ensuring documents are polished and professional.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word (formatting, styles, tables, TOCs, and revision tracking).
  • Strong organizational and communication skills to coordinate with PMs / Directors and manage multiple plans at once.
  • Experience using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) to support research, drafting, and refinement of safety plan content.
  • Must be able to get onto Military Base; pass background and drug test. This role is in person at our JBLM office.
  • Preferred

  • Familiarity with construction, utility, or telecom projects (helpful but not required).
  • Basic understanding of OSHA or safety practices (can be learned on the job).
  • Skills and Competencies

  • Exceptional attention to detail - ability to "dot i's and cross t's" on technical safety documentation.
  • Strong editing, proofreading, and formatting ability.
  • Capacity to interpret scopes of work and translate them into compliant safety documentation.
  • Solutions-oriented, proactive, and able to manage deadlines with accuracy.
  • Effective collaborator with office, field, and client stakeholders.
  • Why Join Cannon
