We are seeking a SMA Engineer to help us create the future of lunar surface mobility in a fast-paced startup environment.
As a SMA Engineer you will play a vital role in protecting crew, systems, and mission success by identifying and mitigating risks throughout all phases of spaceflight development - from testing to launch and mission operations. You will be focused primarily on the Lunar Terrain Vehicle (LTV), the cutting edge crewed and autonomous mobility platform that will drive NASA astronauts, carry payloads, and build key infrastructure on the lunar surface. Your work ensures that safety standards are met and that mission-critical operations are conducted with minimal risk to personnel and equipment.
Key Responsibilities :
Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with mission planning, testing, and operations
Ensure compliance with NASA safety standards across spacecraft, launch vehicles, and ground systems
Support the development and execution of crewed and uncrewed test procedures with a focus on safety
Provide independent oversight and validation of engineering requirements and risk assessments
Collaborate with engineering, testing, and operations teams to proactively address safety issues
Conduct safety audits, hazard analyses, and design reviews to ensure operational readiness and conformance
Provide a culture of safety across all phases of development and mission execution
Required Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field
3+ years of experience in safety, mission assurance, or risk management for aerospace systems
Knowledge of safety standards, hazard analysis, and risk mitigation practices
Team oriented, with excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent organization and time management skills and attention to detail
Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively

Preferred Qualifications :
Advanced degree in a related field
Experience supporting NASA, DoD, or commercial space programs
Familiarity with launch vehicle or spacecraft development lifecycles
Experience with system safety tools
Background in supporting test operations or human spaceflight programs
