Position BriefCampbell County Health (CCH) is seeking an Occupational Medicine Physician to join and grow CCH's Department of Occupational Medicine.
Wyoming's abundant and inexpensive natural resources combined with the continued technological innovation related to extraction, marshaling, modification, transportation, and use of those resources is rapidly expanding the area's industrial base. With the industrial expansion comes increased numbers and a greater variety of employers and workers. CCH seeks to continue to meet the medical needs of our growing community by providing an increased scope and volume of Occupational Medicine services.
Your responsibilities will include both those of a clinical and of a corporate executive relations nature. Clinical functions will include both personally performing and medically directing other providers in wellness services, pre-placement physical examinations, periodic health screening examinations, diagnosing and treating occupational illnesses, workers' compensation evaluations, other short- and long-term disability evaluations, surety medicine services, fitness for duty examinations, and corporate medical advising services. Corporate executive relations will include involvement as the subject matter expert in CCH's Occupational Medicine business development and ongoing work with current corporate partners to identify and analyze health trends; develop, analyze, or modify corporate policies; and develop risk mitigation strategies maximizing the employee health and welfare and minimizing negative operation impacts.
Our ideal candidate understands and can articulate risk to worker health and business operations in common vernacular vs purely medical terms. (S)he has the skill and temperament to convincingly communicate with industry and governmental leadership and the ability to lead a medical team promoting group and individual employee health while balancing the operational imperatives of the employer. The candidate possesses a general knowledge of workplace safety standards and occupational health regulations and the ability and motivation to learn the applicable particulars to each industry served. (S)he should also be proficient in managing patient records and producing detailed reports for workers' compensation claims. Prior experience as a military unit or corporate occupational medicine physician is a plus.
- Responsibilities
- Initially, ~0.6 FTE headed to 0.8 FTE clinician in a typical 5-day M-F workweek outpatient clinic schedule
- Initially, ~0.4 FTE headed to 0.2 FTE purely corporate executive relations
- Care for adult workers in the outpatient occupational medicine setting
- Develop and maintain a high standard of medical practice and clinical competency personal and within the department
- Recognize and appropriately respond to medical emergencies in the clinic as needed
- Stay informed or conduct literature research as needed on the latest advancements in Occupational Medicine to improve patient health outcomes and advice to employers
- Participate in the legal process of workers' compensation, medical examiner calls, depositions, and testifying in hearings when requested
- Participate in appropriate meetings and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure patient needs are met
- Clinically supervise Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) including medical record review, clinical oversight, and performance feedback.
- Conduct ad hoc or informal instructional interactions with peers or clinical subordinates when required to ensure the optimal delivery of patient care
- Maintain accurate patient records and ensure appropriate confidentiality
- Promote and shepherd innovative enterprise practices and changes in standards of care within the Occupational Medicine specialty
Evaluate and make the following decisions :
- Population health risks and mitigation strategies
- Capacity to safely perform specified job functions during pre-placement and fitness for duty examinations
- Recommended duty limitations and accommodations to the employer as appropriate.
- Causality and work relatedness of pathological conditions
- Suitability of treatment plans based upon accepted standards of care and patient progression and recovery leading to short and long-term disability determinations
Evaluate and manage the following conditions :
- Common occupational musculoskeletal injuries of the neck, back, and upper and lower extremities
- Work-related injuries to the head with or without loss of consciousness, assuming the individual is currently conscious and alert
- Work-related injuries to the chest or abdomen, with the possibility of hernias
- Work-related lacerations of the face, scalp, and extremities
- Work-related eye injuries, including foreign bodies to the eye, non-penetrating eye injuries, and chemical exposures
- Work-related rashes and other occupational skin conditions
- Occupational asthma and other work-related respiratory symptoms
- Treatment of non-displaced uncomplicated fractures, including interpreting radiographs, splinting, and orthopedic referral when appropriate
Evaluation and management to include :
- Perform complete and accurate history and physical, including detailed documentation of current work-related complaint, mechanism of injury, activity, and occupational limitations, leading to accurate diagnosis and medically appropriate management of the patient
- Being aware of OSHA recordability and rendering medically appropriate care, while being aware and sensitive to treatment which makes an injury recordable to the employer
- Knowledge of "first aid" treatments, and using them when medically appropriate, including appropriate over-the-counter medications, application of heat or cold, bandages, basic wound care, referral for home exercise training
- Prescription of appropriate medications and therapy
- Ordering and interpretation of appropriate radiographs
- Ordering and interpretation of pulmonary function testing
- Ordering and interpretation of audiograms
- Referral for specialized imaging or testing as necessary and appropriate
- Referral for specialty care as appropriate
- Qualifications
- Hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree
- Be a graduate of an ACGME-accredited residency program in Occupational Medicine
- Mold / obtain and maintain Board Certification or currently be Board Eligible in Occupational Medicine
- Hold / obtain and maintain an unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Wyoming
- Hold / obtain and maintain an unrestricted Wyoming Controlled Substance Registration from the Wyoming Board of Pharmacy
- Hold / obtain and maintain unrestricted WY-designated DEA registration
- Hold / obtain and maintain a current Basic Life Support certificate
- Hold / obtain and maintain medical staff privileges at Campbell County Health
- Current FMCSA certification for DOT exams preferred, ability to gain certification required
- Have and maintain excellent patient care skills and dedication to worker wellness
- Have and maintain a strong understanding of the current practices and regulatory changes affecting Occupational Medicine
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as professional appearance and demeanor required
- Current proficiency Epic preferred, current proficiency in computer use and ability to obtain Epic proficiency required
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
- Current Clinical Practice Group
- 3 other FM-trained physician's practicing in an Urgent Care setting
- 4 other APPs also practicing in an Urgent Care setting
