Purpose
- As West Lead of the AIR field medical team, your primary purpose is to serve as the organizational conduit between US Medical Affairs management and our AIR field based medical science liaison (MSL) teams in order to set strong strategic direction, inspire compliant excellence in scientific engagement, foster strategic partnerships, and ensure the MSL team is listening with true curiosity to the voice of the customer aligned to the overall medical plan across the lifecycle of our products and pipeline assets in the USA.
- To achieve the primary purpose the / West Lead will recruit, onboard, and support the ongoing development of a competent and diverse team of MSLs supporting the AIR portfolio in the USA.
- The West Lead will provide authentic, sefless, empathetic leadership for the AIR field-based Medical Science Liaisons (MSL),set clear expectations and provide constructive feedback in an encouraging and inspiring manner to build team and organizational resilience and trust.
- The West Lead will foster cross-functional collaboration between the MSL team and key company departments in order to assure alignment during the development, implementation and execution of the medical strategy and product specific medical plans.
- Must be willing to travel up to 75% (air / car / rail); this is including overnight stays and occasional weekend travel.
- Must live in the western half of US
Main Responsibilities
MSL Team Management & Oversight :
MSL recruiting, onboarding, and supporting development activitiesSupervise the development of KOL engagement plans aligned with overall goals and medical strategyRegularly spend time directly observing and evaluating MSL field activities, offering feedback and coaching to support and ensure; improvement of skills and expertise impacting performance, engagement excellence, compliance with policies and regulations, and professional developmentMonitor and focus MSL's operational efficiencies to ensure correct balance towards external-facing activities.Ensure all MSLs complete all corporate training requirements on time and demonstrate compliance with applicable internal and external policies and regulations.Provide for on-going education of MSLs for assigned therapeutic area through development of new materials as well as updating of existing materials.MSL Program Strategy :
Develop strategic engagement plans and other MSL activities alignged to the overall customer / medical plan for the assigned therapeutic area goals and objectives.Communicate with medical affairs leadership to ensure alignment, share best practices / and key learnings across the organization to enhance Chiesi Medical Affairs abilities and meet / exceed department objectives.Partner with key personnel within Chiesi USA and Chiesi Corporate, national sales director, regional sales managers, corporate account managers, marketing, market access and regulatory team for advancement of medical / strategic objectives to ensure alignment and role clarity.Monthly / quarterly reports of team MSL impact supporting the medical strategic imperatives insights gathered.Lead / facilitate scientific meetings / congress planning; serve as a representative of Chiesi USA during congresses and other external meetings.Manage budget appropriately and ensure financial resources are used responsibly by direct reportsExperience Required
At least 10years clinical experience in clinical patient care setting or pharmaceutical industry.Experience in pharmaceutical industry as an MSL people manager (or similar pharmaceutical industry role) for at least 2 years (preferred)Demonstrated ability to create a trusting and inspiring culture while managing and leading a high performing team of professionalsKnowledge and experience in interpreting and adhering to FDA regulations regarding product promotion, scientific exchange, and health care practitioner guidelinesDemonstrated proficiency in written, verbal, and face-to-face communications to effectively present information to and influence / support decision-making of managers, working partners, and governmental agenciesAbility to successfully manage multiple tasks and multifunctional resources concurrently while maintaining high attention to detail when responding to changing priorities, ambiguity, and sometimes aggressive deadlinesProficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams), Adobe, etc.Credentialing : Thorough knowledge of healthcare regulations, compliance standards, and hospital credentialing processes. This includes obtaining and maintaining the necessary hospital credentials to access and operate within healthcare institutions. Credentialing includes successful completion of a drug test, including testing for marijuana.Education
Graduate level degree preferred (PharmD., M.D., D.O, PhD, DNP, MS or appropriate healthcare professional degree)
