The Electronic Technician will be responsible to carry out the decontamination of technical equipment (electronics, electro-mechanical equipment, etc.
affected by a variety of contaminants (most often fire or water damage). The Electronics and Machinery Technician role is an integral part of the company's operations.
This person performs detailed assembly and disassembly of various electronic and electro-mechanical equipment and utilizes specialty chemical and mechanical processes to remove unwanted contaminants from these items.
They will be working with a team of multi-disciplined technicians from a variety of cultural backgrounds. It is the Electronic Technician's responsibility to perform their decontamination duties, being conscious of their welfare, and ensure that company quality and safety procedures are being adhered to, and that all items of equipment are inspected prior to returning to the client.
Responsibilities
- Ability to travel extensively to perform work in support of other BELFOR offices or in support of area-wide disasters.
- Define, and agree with the General Manager / Project Manager prior to job commencement, specific decontamination processes and QA measures which will be followed throughout the job (making use of standard work instructions where these exist).
- Manage preparation for any job as instructed by the appointed Project Manager, ensuring chemicals, materials etc which may be required are on hand so that procurement will not disrupt progress / delay delivery.
- Ensure all required documentation is completed throughout the job, in a timely manner. This includes labor and materials recording, disassembly documentation, transfer logs, defect reports etc.
- Ensure work instructions and quality control requirements are followed on every item of equipment.
- Undertake final inspection on all items of equipment prior to dispatch back to the Client
- Assist with achieving department goals
- Create workshop file at the commencement of the job
- Assessment of damaged equipment to develop a cost effective plan for restoration or replacement
- Disassembly of equipment for detailed cleaning, and reassembly of equipment after it has been cleaned and dried
- Detailed cleaning of equipment through HEPA vacuuming, chemical washing and appropriate methods for contamination free drying
- Testing of equipment to ensure it is functioning properly
- Manage and document all processes, equipment usage and time and labor during the duration of the job and submit timely to office
- Comprehensive understanding of customer service, principles and practices
- Work under time constraints to meet specific timelines
- Attention to detail and keen sense of safeguarding other people's property and information
- Attend BELFOR sponsored operations and safety training courses as required
Qualifications
- MSDS knowledge and safety protocols
- 2-3 years minimum of electrical / electronics / mechanical experience
- High School Diploma / GED
- Ability to successfully work and communicate with a variety of employees.
- Ability to perform technician tasks personally or supervise others to perform the needed tasks.
- Strong follow-up skills; ability to organize applicable job timelines and follow up with internal and external contacts as needed.
- Strong written and oral communication skills; including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively.
- Strong organizational skills; ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast paced environment.
- Self-motivated; ability to work both independently to complete tasks and respond to requests as well as collaborating with others to utilize resources and knowledge in identifying high quality solutions.
Physical Demands
- Occasional lifting from 5-40 lbs, unassisted (from 0-15% of the time)
- Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
- Manual dexterity needed for keyboarding, assembly, disassembly, cleaning, and other repetitive tasks
- The ability to bend, crouch, or stand as necessary.
