Job Title : Phlebotomist
Job Description
The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
Decontaminate equipment and update patient information.
Collect and store specimens following established procedures.
Explain the venipuncture or other specimen collection processes clearly and courteously.
Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and / or butterfly needles.
Understand and follow all physicians' orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are 100% correct against scripts.
Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in blood drawing and customer service.
Experience with venipuncture using both straight and butterfly needles.
Ability to handle hard stick scenarios, particularly with transplant and cancer patients.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, where required.
High School Diploma or GED.
1-4 years of phlebotomy experience.
Work Environment
This position is based in a large Patient Service Center (PSC) with a team of five people. The team sees between 150-160 patients daily. Work hours are from 7 : 00 AM to 3 : 30 PM, with a rotational schedule for Saturday. Employees will have a half-day during the week to maintain a balanced 40-hour workweek.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Springfield, Virginia.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00 / hr.
