Job description

The Vice President of Corporate Engineering (VP of Engineering) is a senior executive and a member of the NWF Management Team. This person is responsible for overseeing the corporate engineering department, ensuring successful execution of engineering projects, and aligning engineering efforts with the company's overall business objectives. This is the lead engineering position in the organization. These capital projects will include, but are not limited to, the following : all new factories and factory additions, processing lines, packaging lines, and R&D facilities. This role leads the centralized corporate engineering staff, oversees major capital projects, has a strong project management background, develops strategies, and drives innovation. The role is based at the company Headquarters location in Chicago, IL. Travel for this role is approximately 50-70% and includes travel globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides technical direction and guidance to the Corporate Engineering Team.
  • Develops and manages the annual Capital Budget and implementation plans for all NWF Plants and Projects globally, to meet growth objectives and required return on investment.
  • Develops and implement engineering strategies and road maps.
  • Establishes and ensures adherence to engineering best practices, processes, and standards to enhance productivity and product quality.
  • Identifies and recommends new technologies, automation, and systems to improve processing operations; that is, reduce operational costs, improve quality and service, and increase production efficiency and OEE.
  • Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in engineering and development.
  • Manages external engineering consultants, architects, and construction contractors as required, providing technical direction and guidance.

Team Management

  • Direct Engineering management team and staff, new plant construction design, new production lines, and processing equipment selection.
  • Hires, trains, and manages engineering teams.
  • Provides mentorship and coaching to project engineering team.
  • Fosters a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Ensures that the team is aligned with the company's vision and goals.
  • Project Management

  • Oversees the execution of capital engineering projects, ensuring they meet the project objectives and quality standards, are completed on time, and within budget.
  • Manages project budgets and resources.
  • Identifies and mitigates risks to projects.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams and other departments, such as Manufacturing / Operations and Sales, to ensure alignment and effective communication.
  • Represents the Engineering Department in meetings with senior management.
  • Strategic Planning

  • Develops and implements long-term engineering strategies.
  • Works with the executive management team to set the company's technical direction.
  • Ensures that engineering efforts support the company's overall business goals.
  • Financial Management

  • Manages the Engineering Department's budget.
  • Ensures that capital projects are completed within approved budget.
  • Identifies and recommends cost-saving measures.
  • Skills and Qualifications

    Experience : Extensive experience in engineering leadership roles, with a proven track record of leading and delivering complex projects from conception to completion.

    Technical Expertise : Deep understanding of engineering principles, methodologies, and technologies.

    Leadership and Management Skills : Proven track record of success in leading, managing, and motivating engineering teams.

    Communication Skills : Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

    Strategic Thinking : Ability to develop and implement long-term strategies.

    Problem-Solving Skills : Ability to identify and solve complex problems.

    Education : A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field is required. A master's degree in engineering or another major would be beneficial.
