GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

The Site Supervisor / Primary Caregiver is responsible for the instructional leadership and operational oversight of a Early Head Start classroom(s). This role combines high-quality early childhood education with site-level supervision, ensuring compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, Florida Department of Children & Families regulations, accreditation agencies, and ECS4Kids policies. The position includes direct supervision of the Primary Caregiver(s) and Center Support Assistant, fostering a collaborative and nurturing learning environment.

Key Responsibilities :

Instructional Leadership & Curriculum

  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans using Teaching Strategies Cloud.
  • Follow approved curriculum and daily schedules with fidelity.
  • Conduct child observations and input data into TS Gold; use data to individualize instruction.
  • Maintain a balanced routine of teacher- and child-directed activities.
  • Use CLASS-aligned strategies to support emotional, organizational, and instructional quality.
  • Center Supervision & Operations

  • Oversee daily classroom operations, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and licensing standards.
  • Supervise and support the Primary Caregiver and Center Support Assistant through coaching, feedback, and team-building.
  • Coordinate meal service, classroom maintenance, and substitute coverage as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records including lesson plans, assessments, attendance, and portfolios.
  • Family Engagement & Advocacy

  • Build strong, communicative relationships with families to support child development.
  • Encourage parent involvement and provide regular updates on child progress.
  • Collaborate with Family Advocates to plan parent meetings and engagement activities.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Conduct daily health checks and promote healthy habits.
  • Ensure children receive necessary health, mental health, and special needs services.
  • Follow all safety, hygiene, and emergency procedures.
  • Submit timely and accurate reports and documentation.
  • Professionalism & Collaboration

  • Participate in staff meetings, CLASS evaluations, and professional development.
  • Uphold confidentiality and ECS4Kids standards of conduct.
  • Represent the classroom in community events and inter-agency meetings as needed.

    Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS :

    Director's Credential and one of the following (Degree Preferred)

  • PCG I - High School Diploma or GED and an Infant Toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or comparable credential (FCCPC)
  • PCG II - An associate degree in child development or early childhood education with 6 credit hours specific to infant and toddler development or an IT CDA credential or FCCPC.
  • PCG III - A baccalaureate degree in child development or early childhood education with 6 credit hours specific to infant and toddler development or an IT CDA credential or FCCPC; or a baccalaureate degree in elementary education with 15 credit hours in early childhood education courses including 6 credit hours specific to infant and toddler development or an IT CDA credential or FCCPC.
  • PCG IV - An advanced degree in child development or early childhood education with 6 credit hours specific to infant and toddler development or an IT CDA credential or FCCPC; or an advanced degree in elementary education with 15 credit hours in early childhood education courses including 6 credit hours specific to infant and toddler development or an IT CDA credential or FCCPC.
  • SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES :

  • Early Childhood Education : Understanding of child development, curriculum implementation (e.g., Creative Curriculum), and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Head Start Regulations : Familiarity with Head Start Performance Standards and USDA food program guidelines.
  • Licensing & Accreditation : Knowledge of NAEYC / APPLE regulations and state accreditation standards.
  • Health & Safety : Awareness of child health, mental health, and special needs services, including screening and referral processes.
  • Leadership & Supervision : Ability to lead a small team, provide coaching and feedback, and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Communication : Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with families, staff, and community partners.
  • Organizational & Time Management : Skill in managing multiple responsibilities, maintaining accurate records, and meeting deadlines.
  • Problem-Solving : Ability to address classroom challenges, staff needs, and operational issues with sound judgment.
  • Technology Proficiency : Competence in using systems like ChildPlus, Microsoft Office, and digital tools for documentation and reporting.
  • Build Relationships : Establish trust and rapport with families, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Adaptability : Flexibility to support classroom needs, respond to emergencies, and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Cultural Competence : Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and promote inclusive practices.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making : Use child assessment data to inform planning and support.
  • Advocacy : Represent the program in the community and advocate for children and families' needs.
  • CERTIFICATIONS :

  • Complete TB screening & physical before having direct contact with children. Renew every 2 years.
  • Must have current First Aid and Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training.
  • Commence within ninety (90) days and complete within one (1) year of employment the DCF required 45-hour training.
  • Complete on-line Food Handlers Course Serving Safe Food in Childcare within 90 days of employment.
  • 25 hours of annual training (January-December) in topics related to child development, health and safety, curriculum, and program operations.
  • Renewal of Director's Credential six months prior to expiration date to ensure compliance.

  • 4. Visual & Auditory Acuity

  • Monitor children's safety and behavior visually and audibly in a busy environment.
  • Read printed materials and computer screens; hear conversations and alarms.
  • 5. Speech & Communication

  • Speak clearly and effectively with children, staff, and families.
  • Use expressive language to model communication for children.
  • 6. Environmental Tolerance

  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Tolerate noise levels typical of a childcare setting.
