Position SummaryThis role is responsible for ensuring KIPP students have access to nutritional meals to support the development of healthy minds and bodies by preparing and serving all daily menu items to students.
Additional responsibilities include cleaning and dishwashing, the care and maintenance of meal service equipment and accurate ordering and record keeping.
This is a part-time (0.6 FTE) role reporting to the School Leader or Director of School Operations, and is located at KIPP University park campus.
The tentative start date is July 15, 2024.QualificationsExperience : Individuals possessing the knowledge / skills listed below are considered to possess the necessary education and experience.
Some paid experience in the preparation of large quantities of food is desirable.Education :
- Food handler certification or ability to obtain certification
- Must pass Department of Justice background check
- Willing to train with KIPP Northern California Public Schools or other partners on serving instructions and protocol
Knowledge / skills required :
- Knowledge of general application, preparation, and serving of foods
- Knowledge of basic kitchen utensils and equipment
- Knowledge of safe and sanitary procedures and practices relating to preparation, serving of food, and care of nutrition service equipment and facilities
- Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy containers of food or equipment
- Ability to use a computer's basic functions
- Basic record-keeping techniques
- Successful experience working as an effective member of a team
- Respect for children and adults from various cultures and backgrounds, flexibility, patience
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment that is subject to interruptions

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Prepares breakfast, lunch, and snack for distribution
- Make up serving trays and count, measure, wrap or sack food into compliant serving portions
- Lead or assist in student serving lines and perform cashiering duties as required
- Set-out prepared foods, dispense in proper proportions, re-stock condiments and paper goods
- Manage storing of food on campus, rotating stock, inventorying and keeping storage areas clean
- Set-up, disassemble, clean and operate kitchen equipment such as warmers, stoves, ovens, and wash equipment such as dishes, utensils, pots and pans.
- Maintain clean and organized food service areas
- Maintains records / documents for health inspection
- Account for daily meals served in meal tracking system
- Assist with meal ordering and transportation records to optimize service and reduce waste
- Adherence to KIPP and local public health regulations and safety standards
- Adherence to school’s policies, systems and staff expectations
- Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands Physical : Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time, up to 80% of assigned shift;
exhibit manual dexterity to clean assigned area(s); speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly; ability to move around the cafeteria and to bend and stoop.
Ability to cart food from one location to another. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting / carrying of equipment up to 40 lbs.
Mental : Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people.
Environmental : School environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions. Work may require in-person activities on campus during school closures and non-school days.
