Description

Antiracism:

  • In collaboration with the Antiracism staff, serves as a strategic thinker to support Harvard Library’s Antiracism Strategy.
  • Writes analytical reports, and creates library wide communication plans to distribute findings to key stakeholders.
  • Partners across the library organization to infuse Harvard Library’s Antiracism Strategy into library services, collections, and spaces. Participates in the ongoing review and refinement of these policies.
  • May research, develop and implement training initiatives and an assessment plan for the EDIBA Learning Journey, Harvard Library’s Antiracism Education and Training Initiatives, in consultation with HLOA staff.
  • Collects, manages, and assesses feedback on EDIBA Reading Room and other Harvard Library Office for Antiracism programs and workshops.
  • Serves on the Antiracism Education Team to develop trainings and organizational development activities that lead to sustained individual, organizational, and system change for Harvard Library in alignment with the Harvard Library adopted EDIBA Learning Journey.
  • Keeps current on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging literature and effective strategies for implementation.

Library Collaborations:

  • Represents the Harvard Library Office for Antiracism on the Antiracism Collections Team (ACT) and provides support on building a library collection that aligns with the Harvard Library Antiracism Strategy.
  • Creates, implements, and manages a Collection Development and Reading Room Refresh Policy for the West Stacks Reading room (the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging and Antiracism collections).
  • Manages and administers the Bryant Fellowship Program: The Douglas W. Bryant Fellowships offer awards of $500 to $2,000 to support independent research or scholarly activities by Harvard Library staff that focus on the library’s antiracism strategy, which focuses on people, processes, and professional development in the context of research libraries.
  • Represents Harvard Library Office for Antiracism on Harvard Library’s EDIBA Digitization working group.

Communications:

  • Creates staff Wikis and LibGuides to support antiracism initiatives for Harvard Library.
  • Provides updates to the Staff Wiki, EDIBA Team SharePoint, office website and social media in relation to related projects.
  • Writes blog posts, emails, social media content etc. to update the Harvard Library community and key stakeholders.

Programming and Events:

  • Co-leads and manages activities and events sponsored by the Harvard Library Office for Antiracism.

Basic Qualifications

  • MLS or MIS from a master’s program accredited by the American Library Association.
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion work is required; a combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, belonging, and anti-racism.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to effectively organize and display data.
  • Ability to prioritize work in an environment with multiple and conflicting interests.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to meet shifting needs.
  • High level of proficiency with MS Office, Google Drive, SharePoint, Zoom, Adobe Acrobat, etc.
  • Willingness to continuously adapt to new technical skills if needed.
  • Attendance at off-site meetings might be needed from time to time (e.g., in the Cambridge area or at other Harvard locations), and hours outside of standard working may be required a few times a year.

Working Conditions

  • The position will be based on our Cambridge, MA campus, and you must be on-site for at least 3 days per week. There is the opportunity for a flexible or hybrid work model compliant with Harvard University remote work policies.

Work Format Details

This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.

  • Professional Development: Programs and classes at little or no cost, including through the Harvard Center for Workplace Development and LinkedIn Learning.
  • Commuting and Transportation: Various commuter options handled through the Parking Office, including discounted parking, half-priced public transportation passes and pre-tax transit passes, biking benefits, and more.
