About the Role
We are seeking a Systems Engineer with strong experience in aircraft systems design and certification to join a growing aviation engineering team in the Indianapolis metro area. This role supports aircraft interior modification projects (STCs) for major commercial airlines, including cabin reconfigurations and system relocations.
As a Systems Engineer, you’ll be responsible for designing, analyzing, and certifying aircraft environmental and utility systems such as :
Water, waste, and vacuum systems
Air conditioning and oxygen systems
Fire protection systems
You will collaborate closely with structural, electrical, and cabin engineers to ensure all designs meet FAA regulatory compliance (FAR Part 25) and Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) requirements.
Responsibilities
Design and analyze aircraft systems and components for interior modification (STC) projects.
Develop and review engineering drawings, system schematics, and substantiation reports.
Ensure designs comply with FAA regulations, OEM standards, and airworthiness requirements.
Support the development of work instructions and certification documentation.
Interface with internal teams and external authorities on design and compliance activities.
Travel up to 10% (domestic and international) for inspections or certification support.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Aeronautical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of experience in aircraft systems engineering and certification.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and / or Inventor (open to similar CAD tools).
Strong knowledge of FAA regulations, FARs, and STC processes.
Familiarity with Structural Repair Manual (SRM), Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM), and Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC).
Experience with Boeing and / or Airbus aircraft platforms preferred.
