Job description

FTS, in collaboration with an innovative client in the HealthTech SaaS space, is seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Database Engineer to join their growing IT organization. This candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust database systems that power key business applications. This role involves partnering with software and product teams to translate requirements into efficient database solutions and drive performance improvements. Success in this position requires strong technical expertise, analytical thinking, and a commitment to maintaining secure, reliable, and high-performing data environments.

  • This is a HYBRID role, so 3 days onsite in the Atlanta-area

Key Responsibilities :

  • Architect and deploy advanced database and data pipeline solutions within Azure SQL, utilizing expert-level T-SQL development to deliver scalable, reliable, and easy-to-maintain systems
  • Perform detailed query performance assessments and workload analyses to uncover bottlenecks, errors, and opportunities for tuning or enhancement
  • Implement and uphold strong data protection standards, ensuring all systems meet organizational and regulatory security requirements
  • Partner closely with development and product teams to refine database-driven functionality, enhancing responsiveness and overall system stability
  • Proactively monitor database operations, fine-tuning configurations, indexes, and query logic to maintain peak efficiency
  • Develop, refine, and manage advanced T-SQL codebases—including stored procedures, functions, and complex queries—for optimized data transformation and retrieval
  • Drive strategic database projects emphasizing performance architecture, offering hands-on leadership and technical direction across engineering teams
  • Provide coaching and technical mentorship to junior team members on query design, tuning methods, and troubleshooting best practices
  • Produce and update clear, comprehensive documentation detailing database structures, logic flows, and performance metrics
  • Keep informed on the latest innovations in SQL Server tuning, Azure database technologies, and evolving T-SQL capabilities to inform ongoing improvement
  • Qualifications :

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in SQL Server database engineering, including both development and administration
  • Advanced proficiency in T-SQL with a strong grasp of database architecture, performance diagnostics, and troubleshooting techniques
  • Solid understanding of database security frameworks, with proven experience applying access control and encryption best practices
  • Demonstrated success in optimizing query performance, indexing strategies, and database tuning for high-traffic environments
  • Strong communicator with the ability to collaborate effectively across product, development, and operations teams
  • Skilled in analytical thinking and complex problem-solving within data-driven environments
  • Background with C# development and RESTful API integration is highly desirable
  • Recent exposure to AI-powered development tools or coding assistants used to accelerate engineering workflows is a plus
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and iterative delivery processes preferred
  • Experience guiding or mentoring junior engineers in database or T-SQL best practices is advantageous
  • Proficient in data modeling principles, including normalization and dimensional modeling approaches
  • Exposure to ETL frameworks and modern data platforms such as Databricks, Data Lake, or cloud-based warehousing solutions is beneficial
