Summary

The API Gateway Engineer will play a critical role in our team, contributing to the development and problem solving of a new API management platform utilizing Kong.

This position is a 6-month contract, focusing on project support and the migration to Kong, infrastructure development, and collaboration with application teams.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Kong API management solutions, infrastructure and automation tooling, TypeScript and modern JavaScript, Infrastructure-as-Code, AWS services, networking, and security best practices.

Strong communication skills are essential for working effectively with application teams. This role offers the chance to work on cutting-edge technology and contribute to a high-impact project.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain an API management platform using Kong API management solutions.
• Collaborate with application teams to understand their requirements and integrate APIs effectively.
• Develop infrastructure and automation tooling to support API gateway operations and maintenance.
• Ensure end-to-end API Gateway development, focusing on edge networking with Cloudflare.
• Implement Infrastructure-as-Code using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or equivalent.
• Optimize AWS services such as Lambda, ECS, and other core services for efficient API operations.
• Configure and manage networking components, including F5 BIG-IP, for enhanced performance and security.
• Uphold security, resiliency, and privacy standards by designing and implementing best practices.
• Implement modern build strategies, continuous integration, and delivery pipelines for efficient development workflows.
• Participate in agile methodologies, including sprint planning, to deliver features and enhancements on schedule.

Qualifications

• Experience with Kong API management solutions
• 6+ years working with API management tools
• 3+ years as part of a team building infrastructure and automation tooling
• Proven experience in end-to-end API Gateway development, particularly edge networking with Cloudflare
• Proven experience with TypeScript and modern JavaScript
• Proven experience with Infrastructure-as-Code Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM, or an equivalent
• Strong, proven proficiency with AWS, especially with core services such as Lambda, and ECS; experience with AWS best practices and familiarity with a broad range of AWS tools and services.
• Strong networking skills and F5 BIG-IP experience are highly desirable.
• Desire to lean in on a philosophy of security, resiliency, and privacy by design.
• Experience with modern build strategies, continuous integration, unit testing, static analysis, and automated integration tests required.

Continuous delivery experience preferred.
