STATUS : Full-Time, Exempt (Sunday-Thursday)

SALARY : $90,000 annually

St. Marys Center, www.stmaryscenter.org, is a community of hope, healing and justice. We provide nutrition, advocacy, counseling, transitional housing, and social support to seniors and preschoolers in the heart of Oakland. St. Marys Center operates transitional housing, a senior center, and preschool, and is developing permanent supportive housing as part of a comprehensive, collaborative community development strategy along the San Pablo Avenue corridor. We are proud of an excellent multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality services to people with urgent needs. Charity Navigator awarded us a 4- star rating for fiscal management and integrity for six consecutive years, and St. Mary's Center was the California Association of Nonprofits District 9 Nonprofit of the Year in 2021.

Position Summary

St. Marys Center seeks a Donor & Volunteer Engagement Manager to assist the Development department with strategic outreach and engagement activities to develop and maintain

relationships with donors and volunteers.

Duties and Responsibilities include (but are not limited to)

Donor Relationships (30%)

  • Sets and executes goals in collaboration with the Communications Director, Executive Director and Development Committee for major donors, planned giving and special events.
  • Manages a portfolio of several dozen major donors and high wealth prospects who have the capacity to make significant multi-year commitments by cultivating strong relationships and ensuring ongoing engagement and satisfaction.
  • Drives identification of new opportunities for cultivation and expansion of major donors by maintaining an annual pool of prospective major gift donors who will be solicited in the next 1218-month period and a solicitation schedule.
  • Creates letters of interest and short communications for major donors.
  • Represents the agency at community events and network-building opportunities.

Gift and Database Management (30%)

  • Receives and logs gifts in partnership with the Finance Department.
  • Ensures the agency donor database is maintained, accurate, and up-to-date by :
  • Implementing contact detail input.
  • Developing accurate status reports on campaigns and gifts.
  • Generating all donor reports as requested and preparing analysis.
  • Generating mailing lists and facilitating mailings.
  • Entering new contacts into database and working closely within the Development Department to develop a follow-up process with new contacts and donor prospects.
  • Preparing accurate donor lists for the annual organizational review.
  • Regularly produces and mails donor acknowledgement letters.
  • Owns the administration of development software tools, including but not limited to Every Action, GoFundMe Pro, Zapier, third-party donation and donor advised fund platforms, and troubleshoots related issues.
  • Responds to donor questions about giving.
  • Volunteer Management (25%)

  • Manages Sunday Lunch volunteer program by recruiting, scheduling, training and overseeing community groups who provide mid-day Sunday meal service.
  • Attends Sunday lunch and is trained to respond to emergencies that may occur.
  • Maintains an active list of general volunteers and
  • liaise with Community Services and Operations Departments to identify

    new activities for them to serve.

  • Produces and mails a twice-annual volunteer newsletter.
  • Leads on large volunteer events, approximately twice annually.
  • Managing Volunteer forms in database and external volunteer scheduling software.
  • General Development Support (15%)

  • Leads management of incoming in-kind donations by receiving, recording, acknowledging donors and storing or delivering supplies to appropriate recipients.
  • Helps Development team with all-hands efforts, including but not limited to mailings, outreach supply packing and support for department fellows or interns.
  • Supports annual Spring and Fall events.
  • Qualifications

  • BA degree or three years work experience preferred. AA and five years related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, problem-solving skills.
  • Super-proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 including Outlook, Word, Excel, OneDrive, Teams, Planner; project management; Adobe Creative Cloud tools; Wordpress; and social media.
  • Love of technology and learning new skills; love of sharing new skills with others patiently.
  • Flexible, able to enjoy the administrative challenges of supporting a small-size agency of diverse people and programs.
  • Ability to work independently and creatively.
  • CA Drivers license.
  • Bilingual Spanish or Cantonese a plus.
  • Three or more years of development experience, or at least five years of work experience with nonprofit administration, grant writing, or fundraising. Leadership in a major gifts capacity preferred.
  • Familiarity and experience working with local, corporate and private funders.
  • Demonstrated success in communicating effectively and compassionately with a diverse set of stakeholders and building relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience with donor development / CRM software systems.
  • Experience with programs relating to senior homelessness a plus.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 80% of the time.
  • Must be able to walk across agency offices and climb / descend stairs. Office located on second floor.
