About our Department : The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) is located near the City's downtown business and historic districts. Huntsville has 3 Police Precincts, approximately 500 sworn officers, 200 civilian personnel and patrols an area around 220 square miles. HPD is a "Professional Law Enforcement Organization" utilizing modern technology, state of the art equipment and comprehensive training techniques. The Department is an internationally accredited law enforcement agency through the "Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement" (CALEA). Police Officer (Part-Time School Resource Officer) Position Overview : This is law enforcement work specifically as a Part-Time School Resource Officer within the Huntsville City Schools System. Officer works as a liaison between the Huntsville Police Department and Huntsville City Schools. Plans, develops, conducts and coordinates a wide variety of Public Safety training programs for the City of Huntsville schools. Performs complex and specialized investigations such as juvenile, vice, narcotics, crimes against persons, and crimes against property; interviews and counsels juveniles and parents; provides information to the public.

Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements : High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency. Successfully complete a pre-employment supplemental application and polygraph examination.

Minimum Education, Training and Experience :

The City of Huntsville offers the following benefits, sick leave, holiday pay and retirement, for its regular, part-time employees. Part-time employees are not eligible for paid vacation, overtime or other benefits.

03 Are you an APOSTC certified law enforcement officer who honorably retired in good standing with no pending disciplinary action? (This information will be verified).

04 You will be required to complete 12 hours of Alabama Peace Officer Standard & Training Commission (APOSTC) provided by the Huntsville Police Academy on an annual basis. Can you meet this requirement?

05 All sworn Huntsville Police Department personnel are required to complete a biennial Physical Abilities Test during continuing education in-service training. Can you meet this requirement?

06 Do you acknowledge that applicants who have not maintained their APOSTC certification and have been retired longer than 10 years cannot be recertified by the Huntsville Police Academy and are not eligible for hire / rehire as a part-time police officer?

07 Do you acknowledge that you must meet specific requirements as stipulated by the Alabama Peace Officer Handbook : Training Commission and other legal criteria as required?

08 Do you acknowledge that you must successfully complete a pre-employment polygraph examination and supplemental application?
