Grounds Maintenance Workers perform landscape, garden, and greenhouse duties such as planting, pruning, mowing, trimming, watering, fertilizing, weeding, and snow and ice prevention and removal; operate hand and power tools, power mowers, tractor mowers, trenching devices, forklifts, and hoists.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. Must have a working knowledge of gardening and landscape methods, techniques, material, and equipment; methods, materials, and tools used in grounds tree service work; ability to safely and properly operate a wide variety of grounds maintenance tools and equipment. Must become familiar with power equipment such as chain saws, stump grinders, limb chippers, and dump trucks.
This position will work with the Grounds Department assigned to tree care and will follow ANSI Standards for tree care, pruning, fertilization, planting, and removal. Applicants must be willing to work above ground, be willing to climb trees at precarious heights, and learn proper knot tying for safety. ISA Certification is preferable. The incumbent will be required to acquire and meet standards regarding knowledge of tree safety, tree rescue, and herbicide and fertilizer application.
Employees must possess and maintain a valid State of Nevada Drivers license. Employees must obtain forklift operator and man lift operator licenses by 11 month evaluation of hire and maintain throughout employment with the University.
Work Schedule is 6 : 00am 2 : 30pm Monday through Friday. This schedule could be temporarily or permanently adjusted should the needs of the University.

One year of experience performing grounds maintenance work using a variety of tools, equipment, and techniques; OR six months of experience as a Grounds Maintenance Worker II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Grade 23, Step 1, salary $40,966.56. In accordance with Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) 284.170, initial appointments to classified positions typically begin at Step 1 of the assigned grade.
