The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Director of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships, the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships supports advising, programming, and administration in the area of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships.

Programming duties will include planning within the unit for the year, maintaining regular communication with students applying for undergraduate research and fellowships programs, and coordinating activities with the Center for Student Advising, the Center for Career Education, the Center for Undergraduate Global Engagement, and academic departments regarding deadlines and programmatic events.

Administrative duties will include creating and maintaining databases of undergraduate research and fellowship opportunities, creating and maintaining student profiles, and coordinating the disbursement of related stipends, prizes, awards and fellowships.

Advising duties include serving in a support role for Scholars programs and serving as a resource for students interested in research and fellowships.

The incumbent will support the efforts of the unit and of the Office of Academic Affairs.

Responsibilities

  • Student support for undergraduate research and fellowship opportunities
  • Provide logistical support for students in Columbia undergraduate research programs and fellowship programs, including disbursement of stipends and travel funding and making housing arrangements and the coordination of research proposals.
  • Plan and coordinate multiple College research symposia for students to present their research.
  • Contribute to application management and oversight of selection processes.
  • Assist in informational meetings for Columbia undergraduate students
  • Advise Columbia undergraduate students on fellowship and / or research resources.
  • Administrative support of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships
  • Manage general communications for area of research and fellowship programs to students, to academic departments, and to College and University offices.
  • Maintain fellowships websites so that they reflect current competition deadlines and forms and provide accurate information for our students.
  • Maintain database of student applicants and track awards; create student profiles of students pursuing research and / or fellowship opportunities;

maintain student and alumni profiles and experiences to create a network for fellowship applicant support and document student successes.

  • Update Columbia College website and other online publications with information on research and fellowship opportunities, deadlines, and processes.
  • Coordinate disbursements of certain College and University related stipends, prizes, awards, and fellowships in conjunction with other staff of Academic Affairs.
  • Organize and advertise events related to undergraduate research and fellowships, including information sessions, workshops, research symposia, research conferences, etc.
  • Coordination of College academic programming
  • Collaborate with other College offices in planning engagement in academic events, such as the Undergraduate Research Symposium and the Academic Resources Fair.
  • Organize annual honors ceremonies, coordinate faculty and student participation, produce invitations and publications.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • As a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Council of Ivy Group Presidents (Ivy League), it is imperative that members of the Columbia University community, in all matters related to the intercollegiate athletics program, exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with regard to adherence to NCAA, Conference, University, and Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education rules and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or its equivalent required.

Minimum of two years of related experience is required.

Experience working with college students in one or more of the following areas is required : academic advising; study abroad advising;

and / or supportive academic programs.

Good written and oral communication skills, organizational leadership skills, and interpersonal skills necessary.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and social media is required.

Ability to work with databases required.

Master's degree preferred.
