Atlantic Health System is seeking a Security Officer for the Security Department at Newton Medical Center. The position requires working nights and shift hours may vary. Essential functions and responsibilities include : the ability to work first, second, and third shifts, weekends, and holidays and overtime as required. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. and stand for at least 4 hours at a time. Proficiency with computers is required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with the department's computer system are essential. The candidate must be able to engage with patients, visitors, and staff. This position includes safety tours of the facility and grounds, responding to emergencies, conducting investigations, and gathering information, completing electronic reports, de-escalating violent or threatening individuals. The candidate will be exposed to bio-hazards such as blood, vomit, saliva, and urine. The candidate will be required to pass an N95 fit test. Be able to wear an N95 or surgical mask for short and extended periods of time. Candidates will be oriented on one or more shifts during their initial orientation. Candidates will be required to pass an AHS approved physical control tactics course. Responsible for protecting company's property and staff by maintaining a safe and secure environment. Provides security by positioning himself / herself within a building entrance, more specifically, at or near the front desk / check in area. Ensures that all employees and visitors are properly greeted and checked in. Answers questions and directs individuals to the proper locations throughout the facility. Notifies employees of arriving visitors and directs them to meet and escort their guests. Follows proper security protocols by obtaining and issuing proper identification of anyone entering the facility.

Principal Accountabilities :

• Welcomes all visitors and employees entering the facility. Conducts security checks on all visitors and notifies employees of their arrival.
• Ensures all employees check in using their assigned company badge / security card. Assists employees who do not have or have lost their badge.
• Patrols and monitors an assigned area; reports suspicious activities to local authorities.
• Monitors surveillance cameras, inspects property, and monitors crowds.
• Contacts law enforcement or fire department in case of an emergency.
• After business hours, checks doors and windows, to ensure the property is secure.
• Investigate reports of suspicious activity on the property.
• Reasonably detains persons suspected of criminal activity until law enforcement arrives.
• Escorts discharged staff, trespassers, and other unwelcome parties off the premises.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education : High School Graduate

Minimum Experience : Prior law enforcement, fire service or EMS, or behavioral health experience highly preferred. Former military, reserve military and law enforcement candidates preferred. Thorough background checks conducted. Ability to write detailed reports and strong verbal skills are essential.

Licenses / Certifications : Valid driver's license with a clean record is required. High school diploma required. Associate or bachelor's degree is preferred. High School Diploma plus military, law enforcement, fire service, emergency medical service or security experience, will be considered in lieu of associate degree.
