Job Location John Rogers Elementary School - Seattle, WA Education Level High School Job Category Education Associated Recreation Council, the non-profit partner with Seattle Parks & Recreation, is hiring a School-age Childcare Lead Counselor at John Rogers Elementary School.
The after-school School-Age Care (SAC) Lead Counselor is responsible for supervising participants and leading activities with the additional responsibility of program planning and staff support.
SAC participants are between the ages of 5 and 12. The SAC lead counselor is responsible for constructing and maintaining a safe, fun, inclusive environment welcoming to all.

- Year-round; including summer
- After-school schedule Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 2 : 00pm - 6 : 00pm and Wednesday from 1 : 00pm - 6 : 00pm; up to 23 hours / week
- The schedule is subject to change based upon programming needs and requirements
- You may be asked to work at other sites as needed to cover shifts
- Assume the responsibilities of opening and closing procedures in the absence of an assistant director or director
- Assume the administrative responsibilities that will be delegated to them by an assistant director or director
- Oversees active supervision of participants by managing the flow and implementation of the program
- Implementation and support in planning activities and following curriculum
- Address behavior via positive reinforcement
- Model appropriate behavior and provides opportunities for social and emotional growth
- Collaborate with SAC team members to ensure the success of participants
- Communicate with SAC team members, families, community center staff, and Seattle Public Schools (SPS) staff
- Provide solution-based suggestions
- Assume the responsibilities of initiating the Incident Response Plan in the absence of the assistant director or director
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of designated program space(s)
- Provide a safe environment by ensuring emergency preparedness is followed
- Remove and avoid any potential hazards
- Communicate hazards to immediate supervisor
- Support regular safety drills
- Report and document incidents / accidents to immediate supervisor
$600 HIRING BONUS!
Pay Rate : $18.17 hourly; non-exempt position

- Determine the groups to maintain the appropriate staff to participant ratio in absence of supervisors
- Conduct regular head counts and roll calls
- Maintain audio / visual supervision of participants at all times
- Maintain required staff to participant ratios (no more than 1 : 15)
- Ensure environments are well-maintained, developmentally appropriate and supports the needs of the program and its participants
- Provide positive transitions that maintain ratios / head counts to minimize the risk of unwanted behaviors
- Support other organization sites and programs as needed
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a community center environment or may be at various sites. This role may routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, scanners and photocopiers.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a part-time, Monday-Friday, with occasional weekends, position. The hours can vary between the hours of 6 : 00am-9 : 00am and / or 12 : 30pm-6 : 00pm during the school year.
For break camps / summer day camp it varies Monday-Friday between 7 : 00am-6 : 00pm.
TRAVEL
Occasionally may need to work at another site as needed and directed by supervisor.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE
- Must have High School Diploma, GED, college transcripts or other secondary education
- At least one year of experience working with children between the ages of 5- 12 years old in a recreation or childcare setting
- One-year experience leading activities with a large group of children
- Has completed twelve (12) college credits in any 100-level or above college coursework as approved and verified in the DCYF MERIT system
- Experience supervising and directing staff and leading programing is preferred
- Documentation of current First Aid / CPR certification, HIV / AIDS, blood-borne pathogens education and training, a valid Washington State Food Handlers permit, MMR vaccination record, have cleared a TB test;
30 hours STARS training, or documentation of exemption is highly preferred
- Successful completion of a WA State and Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF) Portable Background Check (PBC) certificate.
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Valid Washington State Drivers license or Washington State ID Required
