The International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) is the world's preeminent association of healthcare professionals and scientists working toward a world where no person's life is limited by epilepsy. The ILAE is incorporated in the United States as a nonprofit, tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization and has sole ownership of an event management company (ILAE Secretariat Ltd) located in Ireland.
Established in 1909, ILAE is one of the oldest international neurology subspecialty organizations currently consisting of 128 National Chapters covering 160 countries and a global membership of over 30,000 health professionals.
The International League Against Epilepsy is seeking a Director of Finance and Human Resources responsible for managing and coordinating the financial activities of both the US nonprofit company (ILAE) offices and the Dublin-based event management company (ILAE Secretariat Ltd).
This is a part‑time position for 25 hours a week reporting to the Executive Director. This is a remote position based in the US. While most Board and Finance meetings are held online, domestic and international travel is required up to four times a year.
Specific responsibilities include :
- Coordinate and develop, in conjunction with the Treasurer and Executive Director, all budgets including those for operations, meeting planning, committees and commissions.
- Prepare financial reports for the Executive, Management and Financial Committees’ Boards.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, consolidated quarterly management reports, annual financial statements and cashflow reports.
- Organize and coordinate Finance Committee and Finance Advisory Committee meetings.
- Liaise with investment consultants.
- Liaise with US and Irish accountants, providing all necessary records and documentation required for filing tax reports and preparing audit reports.
- Oversee financial and accounting functions for US and Dublin offices.
- Monitor and reconcile intercompany balances and investigate any discrepancies.
- In line with the delegation of authority, manage contracts, payment and banking arrangements in US and Ireland.
- In conjunction with the Executive Director and the Treasurer, manage the annual review, updating and renewal of insurance policies and contribute to the ongoing risk assessment and organization wide risk management processes.
- Oversee outsourced payroll functions for staff employed via both the US and the Dublin offices and assist the Executive Director with any other financial and administrative aspects to support effective talent development and human resource management.
- Ensure compliance with budgets, policies and procedures and the development and updating, as needed, of relevant finance and human resource policies and processes.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with financial policies and regulations.
- Strive for continual improvement in the effectiveness and efficiency of the financial domain of ILAE.
The position requires someone with the following attributes :
At least 10 years’ finance and management experience in a senior role including strategic financial planningProficiency in US accounting standards including GAAP and in using accounting software such as SAGE 100 and QuickBooks are essentialA good understanding of the financial and administrative aspects of human resource management including payroll and compliance with labor lawsKnowledge of investments and asset managementA Master's degree in Business, Accounting, or FinanceCPA license or equivalentPassionate about improving access to care and treatment for people with epilepsyAbility to work independently when required and always maintain confidentialityExperience of working in or with non‑profit organizations and with Executive BoardsFluency in English and excellent communication skills#J-18808-Ljbffr
