Crane Operator WPB Field Station 4429BR Job Description JOB SUMMARY AND ACCOUNTABILITIES This position is located at West Palm Beach Field Station and will operate cranes to lift, move and position large structure gates, pump station machinery and heavy loads. Operates multi excavation / earthmoving equipment to maintain ditches, canals and levees. Inspects crane for safety issues on a daily basis as well as the condition of the work site prior to setting up crane. Ensures adherence to safe work practices and procedures. Reads and understands signs, signals, load charts, grade stakes, excavation plans, maps / charts for dredging areas, operating manuals and service procedures. Determines load weights and checks them against lifting capacities in order to prevent overload. Observes proper load hook-up. Must be aware of how much material can be lifted safely based upon weather conditions and the capacity of the crane. Works within precise limits and standards of accuracy. Monitors gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly. Manipulates crane controls to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions. Places blocks and outriggers to prevent capsizing when lifting heavy loads. Bolts boom sections together to extend or modify boom for pile driving or high lifting. Uses relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with regulations or standards. Other Duties as Assigned. This position is subject to random mandatory drug and alcohol testing. Work hours are Monday - Thursday from 6 : 30 am - 5 : 00 pm. The hiring range for this position is $62,067.20 to $73,028.80 (based on education and years of relevant work experience). An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Typically has High School Diploma or GED (Required) and 4+ years' experience operating crane and multi-excavation / earthmoving equipment (Required) and 4+ years' experience operating crane, dragline and multi-excavation / earthmoving equipment. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Forklift Operations Certification (Required) First Aid / CPR / AED (Required) Applicable certification by a nationally recognized certifying entity such as NCCA (National Commission for Certifying Agencies), ANSI (American National Standards Institute), or the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) (Required) Valid State of Florida Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without restriction to operate vehicles equipped with a manual transmission, or the ability to obtain a CDL Learner's Permit within 2 months and / or CDL License within 6 months from date of hire or placement in the job. (Required) PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role. Extensive Exertion plus travel : Regularly sets up, adjusts, controls, tests and operates equipment to complete assignments. The work environment may be hot and humid with no facilities.
