We are currently recruiting a Land Manager to join our Landscape & Conservation branch. Reporting to the Director of Landscape & Conservation, the Land Manager will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of The Arboretum’s grounds and plant collections, while also providing direct supervision and leadership for all Grounds Technicians, Arborist, Tree Care Technician, grounds seasonal staff and department volunteers.
This is a full-time, year-round position.
Some of the specific responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to :
- Plan, direct and carry out maintenance and care of Arboretum grounds and collection areas including but not limited to mowing, mulching, tree and shrub removal with staff and / or contractors, planting, string trimming, fertilizing, turf maintenance and rejuvenation pruning.
- Lead a high-performing team of Grounds Technicians, Arborist, Tree Care Technician, grounds seasonal staff and volunteers; ensure a positive and professional work environment.
- Develop and lead annual, monthly, weekly and daily work plans for Grounds staff.
- Collaborate with Horticulture Manager, Landscape Project Manager and Curator of Living Collections on various landscape installations and organizational projects.
- Perform high maintenance mowing and ornamental annual mowing in collections and gardens.
- Operate and train grounds staff on a variety of equipment to include but not limited to tractor, brush hog, stump grinder, chipper, chainsaw, mower, edger, skid steer and transport vehicles.
- Coordinate and perform invasive plant removal.
- Perform routine personnel functions.
- Lead an Emergency Response Team to address inclement weather and / or emergency conditions. Assist with snow, ice and storm debris; address garden hazards.
- Assist in event preparation, including set up, tear down and staffing.
Qualifications :
High School diploma or General Education degree (GED); or an equivalent combination of education, training, and education.Three (3) years of demonstrated grounds maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Two (2) years of demonstrated supervisory experience in grounds maintenance or landscape industry (crew lead, foreman, etc.); or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Ability to obtain and maintain Ohio Pesticide Applicator License, Certified Grounds Manager certification (through PGMS), OSHA 10 certification, and CPR / First Aid certification.Strong time management skills with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.Keen attention to detail.Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal).Ability to work in all types of weather conditions.Availability to work evening and weekend hours as needed.Valid driver’s license and evidence of insurability.Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.Organizational Culture :

The annual salary range for this exempt level position is $50,000-$55,000.
