Job Description & Requirements Specialty : Med Surg Discipline : RN Start Date : 01 / 05 / 2026 Duration : 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift : 12 hours, nights Employment Type : Travel Job Description American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med / Surg night shift position in an acute care setting requiring a WV or compact RN license and BLS certification. Responsibilities Work in an acute care hospital Med / Surg unit with 48 beds Night shifts are 12 hours (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.) with a requirement to work every other weekend Patient population includes pneumonia, UTI, AMS, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, falls, and weakness Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 : 5-7 on days and 1 : 6-8 on nights Drip titration required for heparin, bumex, and lasix with no cardiac drip titration Floating to other Med / Surg, MS-Tele, or IMC units for lower acuity patients may be required Uses Cerner Soarian EMR system No self-scheduling or block scheduling; scheduling is handled by the manager No on-call or standby responsibilities Standard Med / Surg clinical duties including monitoring, medication administration, and patient care activities Charge nurse present on every shift, often with patient assignment at night if only one charge nurse is scheduled Unit is supported by patient care techs with a typical ratio of 1 : 10-12; duties include vitals, BGM, EKGs, and basic patient care RT manages respiratory equipment; RNs are only required to monitor Telemetry monitored by designated tele techs; RNs are not expected to read strips May be included in holiday rotation based on RN holiday policy Orientation includes one day with educator for computer system and one day with a preceptor Navy blue scrubs required for RNs First-time travelers are accepted Former WVU Medicine employees must have a 2-year break before reapplying; travel assignments at any WVU facility cannot exceed one year cumulatively before a mandatory 2-year break Requirements Active WV or compact RN license required Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required Minimum 1 year of RN experience Ability to titrate heparin, bumex, and lasix drips (but not cardiac drips) Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility and local candidates are not considered Candidates must provide a copy of an unexpired driver’s license for consideration Prior experience with Cerner or Soarian EMR preferred Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-637046.
