This advertisement is for a Correctional Counselor I position for Sierra Conservation Center located in Jamestown, Tuolumne County. Under the supervision of the Correctional Counselor II (Supervisor) (CCII), the Correctional Counselor I (CCI) working on Facility A and B will organize, assemble, and record information necessary for classification and parole planning for incarcerated people in the custody of adult institutions, within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. This includes but is not limited to interviewing, counseling, and assisting incarcerated people with their adjustment, development, or modification of the incarcerated person's program in a correctional setting. Responsible for assisting incarcerated persons with disabilities in understanding, preparing for, and participating in the BPH suitability hearing process as needed. Perform additional peace officer duties as required, to replace and / or assist other custodial staff during emergency situations, such as fights, attempted escapes, or major incidents. Maintain order and supervise the conduct of incarcerated people in order to maintain the safety of persons and property and to include other job related work as necessary.

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s). Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires that each full-time employee receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 30, 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. You will find additional information about the job in the Duty Statement.

Working Conditions

About this location – The primary mission of Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) is to provide housing, programs and services for minimum and medium custody incarcerated individuals, to aid in their rehabilitation. SCC is responsible for the training and placement of male incarcerated individuals in the Conservation Camp Program. SCC administers male camps located throughout California.
