The Hired Guns are seeking a Business Intelligence Analyst for a high-paying opportunity to rapidly grow the reach of a nascent website in the education technology sector.

Nitty Gritty

With wide resources and wider sights, the Business Intelligence Analyst will catapult this latest initiative to help students make the most of higher ed. Finding the deeper KPIs and the metrics to mark them, you’ll drill down into watershed points to unleash the mighty potential of this site with hundreds of thousands — if not already a million — pages. Hey, more work just means a bigger data set to deliver accurate analysis.

Telling the narrative of this business is also important, and you should be able to chart its progress in numbers and the layman’s terms that describe them for all your fellow stakeholders who aren’t as analytically adept as you are — since you’re the bridge between product and marketing. You’ll show your colleagues how users are engaging with the product, and what sales and marketing moves are bringing those users to the door.

What Success Looks Like

“You’re the first person in this role, so the program will only grow. Here’s your chance to define it by determining what to automate.” You don’t get a million pages optimized by hand. Finding the most efficient, ongoing way to devour data and digest findings will accelerate the page progress to light speed. Once that’s in the can, you’ll expand your role and build your own team.

Hired Gun Profile

Data analytics is your blood type, and you only look away from your insight streams when you blink. You think Applied Math and Stats would make an even better baby name than Behavioral Sciences. Databases are your home bases, and if you ever close Excel, it’s to improve your fluency in SQL, Python, or jQuery.

You don’t need ecommerce experience on the resume, but a high-volume role is essential. (Again: one million pages.) Find the data points that express your ability to take ownership and automate the work of a team through one person. Show them you’re the high-profile polymath whose cross-discipline observations will guide this project to the success it deserves.

Inside Skinny

This job is a bit of a soothsayer role. They’re looking for someone who will show them what they could never see for themselves, but which makes perfect sense once it’s pointed out to them.
