Manager of Tax: Individual Family Office

This is an excellent opportunity to pivot from your CPA-firm experience or trust company / family office work to a full-service relationship manager position while overseeing various aspects of investing and accounting functions, as well as legal and administrative requirements to serve family member needs.
This is a hybrid position combining in office and remote work. Exceptional compensation and benefits are offered by the firm.
Base salary is open and commensurate with experience. $140,000-$165,000.
Tax Manager position with a focus on client service for a 15-person Family Office in the MetroWest area of Boston. This is an excellent opportunity to pivot from your CPA-firm experience to a full-service relationship manager while overseeing various aspects of investing and accounting functions, as well as legal and administrative requirements to serve family member needs.
The Tax Manager will be responsible for tax return preparation and comprehensive client service at well-established and successful Family Office.
Additionally, this person will assist with department-wide initiatives related to tax compliance, analysis and planning for clients.
Responsibilities :
- Produce tax filings and review financial statements for proper tax basis reporting for client’s trusts, LLCs / LPs, individual and foundations tax filings and monitor the staff through the annual and quarterly estimated tax process to ensure quality reporting
- Handle all aspects of relationship management. Assist with cash needs planning, analyses of potential tax implications from planned transactions, gift / estate planning decisions, and tax projections
- Identify, analyze and present tax planning strategies that are comprehensive and compliant in advising client on tax concepts and complex tax technical issues.
Collaborate with team members on legal implications of taxable events and champion projects through to a solution
- Mentor and train highly motivated team for best practices in tax compliance and client communication. Support staff in developing, designing and implementing systems / reports to serve client needs
- Utilize a fully integrated software application to calculate, support, store and report financial activity and assist in the creation, maintenance and implementation of policies and procedures
- Role requires maintaining tracking systems for complete oversight of family office’s tax filing obligations, which requires reviewing external tax law changes to create and improve reporting and its tracking
- Work with management team on department-wide initiatives for consistent work product among families and to delegate and communicate to staff routinely for timely workflow
Education, Experience and Qualifications :
- Experience in managing multiple client projects and deadlines including proactively communicating with client, staff and management
- Experience in corresponding and communicating with federal and state taxing authorities, as needed
- Experience in complex tax matters and mentoring staff to create well-supported work product
- Ability to work in databases, CCH Axcess / Fixed Assets, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office
- Certified Public Accountant with bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting concentration and / or Taxation
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in tax return preparation
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in direct client engagement and staff management
- Current knowledge of individual, trust and gift tax matters
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
- Must be able to learn and teach concepts within a complex, deadline-oriented environment
- Strong work ethic, communication skills and commitment to client service
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion
