About the job:

George Fox University, a Christ-centered institution, invites applications for part-time adjunct faculty positions across various academic disciplines within the Portland Seminary. Adjunct faculty play a crucial role in delivering high-quality instruction while fostering student engagement in a supportive Christian learning environment. Teaching opportunities may vary by department and semester.

Job Responsibilities Include, but Are Not Limited To:

  • Teach courses in alignment with the university's mission and learning objectives.
  • Develop and implement effective instructional strategies that promote student engagement.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student performance.
  • Utilize the university's learning management system (Canvas) for course management.
  • Maintain professionalism and adhere to university policies.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect, and service.
  • Serve as a Christian role model to students, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Demonstrated experience working cross culturally with respect, appreciation and humility.
  • Other duties as assigned.

We Are Looking for Candidates Who Have:

  • A relevant terminal degree.
  • Relevant ministry experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in subject matter and commitment to student learning.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to integrating faith and learning within the academic discipline.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States. This position does not offer visa sponsorship; therefore, only applicants who do not require sponsorship for employment visas, now or at any point in the future, should apply.
  • A commitment to the University's Theology of Racial and Ethnic Diversity.
  • A desire to work with a diverse community of students and employees who represent various cultures, backgrounds, abilities, ethnicities, political views, and expressions of Christian faith.
  • A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a church. In addition, employees agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.

Preference Will be Given to Those Who Have the Following Attributes:

  • Professional experience in the field related to the subject being taught.
  • Previous teaching experience in higher education.
  • Familiarity with online and hybrid teaching modalities.
  • Engagement in scholarship, research, or professional development.
  • Proficiency with Canvas Content Management System, Zoom, and Google Suite.

Job information:

  • Working Conditions: Portland, OR (or as specified by the hiring department).
  • Department: Teaching may occur in-person, online, or hybrid format, depending on departmental needs.
  • Supervisor: Associate Dean of Academic Operations, Portland Seminary
  • Compensation: Adjunct faculty are paid on a per credit hour basis, commensurate with education and experience.
