Sr Statutory Accountant / Supervising Senior Accountant

REQUIRES : Current / recent experience working in a Corporate Accounting Unit within a P&C insurance carrier
Our P&C carrier client will hire an experienced, savvy corporate accountant who comes out of the P&C insurance marketplace - small to medium sized carrier is preferred. Product line experience is not limited and could be personal or commercial lines. Preference is to find someone with strong technical accounting skills. This role will require previous experience in a P&C insurance carrier showing technical competency in all matters of things related to corporate accounting - reinsurance accounting, loss reporting, investment accounting, NAIC regulatory filings, quarterly & annual statement prep, general ledger, etc. Role reports to the Corporate Controller.
We're looking to attract someone who has a very good understanding of all aspects of investment accounting who can lead the investment accounting process including reconciliations between investment accounting software team, custodian and investment managers, journal entries and reporting. Their portfolio is not complicated, but requires more than a year or so of experience.
Regarding reinsurance - we're looking for someone who has a full understanding of reinsurance and reinsurance accounting. Schedule F would be a plus. Experience in contract negotiations will not be relevant.
Carrier will consider candidates with mentorship / supervisory experience who want to continue in that path or candidates who prefer to be a sole contributor with no supervisory responsibilities. Most important here is technical competency, ability to meet deadlines, thrive in a collaborative setting with an eye for process and workflow improvements. Carrier will prefer candidates who have experience working remotely and who understand being flexible. this role has no immediate upward advancement potential. We're looking for someone who is happy in a supporting role and not looking to climb the corporate ladder. Strong and steady are good attributes.
A four-year degree is required , but a CPA is not required. Our Controller will be looking for a general understanding of financial software used in an insurance setting.
We're looking for a can-do attitude and someone who isn't easily overstressed by the day-to-day accounting function / challenges and who is a SUPER communicator. Working remotely requires a high level of interaction and a collaborative spirit.
