Job description8+ years of professional experience in software engineering Previous leadership experience at the Director level or above Strong development background in Python Experience scaling engineering teams through periods of growth Strong process-building and organizational skills in fast-paced environments Comfortable operating in regulated or highly structured environments Background in bioinformatics genetic testing , or healthcare technology Prior work in compliance-heavy environments (e.g., CAP, CLIA, FDA) Exposure to front-end engineering or full-stack team dynamics Hands-on coding contributions alongside team leadership Experience at both startups and larger companies, particularly during transition / growth phases Initial Conversation – 30-minute intro with technical leadership Technical Assessment – Take-home or live coding session Presentation – Walkthrough of an architectural or leadership challenge Onsite Interviews – Includes lunch and 2–3 sessions with senior engineering team members Hybrid schedule : 2–3 days / week onsite in San Francisco Collaborative office setting with flexibility for top candidates Mission-driven culture, highly cross-functional, small but growing team
What You'll Do
- Lead a high-performing engineering team, growing from ~18 to 35–50 engineers
- Set and refine engineering processes, team structure, and technical culture
- Guide architectural decisions and system design, particularly for internal tools and platforms
- Remain ~10% hands-on through code reviews or direct contributions (primarily in Python)
- Support cross-functional collaboration with product, scientific, and compliance teams
- Ensure technical excellence in a high-compliance environment (e.g., healthcare or regulatory standards)
