Crew Leader
The City of Murphy seeks to add a Crew Leader to its dynamic team! As our Crew Leader, you will direct and participate in the work activities of personnel performing equipment operations, technical skills and manual labor, while controlling those tasks required to perform construction, maintenance and repair of the City's Water and Wastewater Systems, Streets and Stormwater Systems and Traffic Control Devices (Public Works Systems).

This opportunity is FLSA non-exempt and budgeted on Pay Grade #29. The pay plan range below is shown to represent opportunities for growth and development within this opportunity. We are seeking to hire between the Min to Mid-range of the pay grade shown dependent upon qualifications. Min $24.37 / hour Mid $26.81 / hour Max $29.25 / hour.

Examples of Duties
- Directs work activities of Maintenance Workers I and II who perform work on the City's Public Works Systems. Inspects work being performed by subordinates to ensure compliance with City and Department standards and policies.
- Operates and oversees all vehicles, equipment, and machinery used in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of the City's Public Works Systems.
- In conjunction with supervisor, reviews plans and specifications to ensure proper installation of Public Works Systems, including but not limited to, confined spaces, trenching vehicle, equipment and machinery operation, compressors and use of all pneumatic tools.
- Compiles and inputs information into Cartegraph.
- Ensures all rules, regulations, and policies of the City and Department are followed.
- Enforces all rules and regulations and reports all violations as directed by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
- Observes and enforces all safety requirements involved in construction, maintenance, and repair of the City's Public Works System.
- Provides information to Supervisor and Superintendent regarding employee job performance as related to their job description.
- Uses various line locate equipment to locate and mark City infrastructure for other contractors.
- Maintains Public Works Department equipment, vehicles, and tools. Keeps records of general maintenance inspection on all equipment and vehicles. Conducts maintenance and equipment checks daily. Report damages or defects on any tool or equipment checked.
- Sets up and maintains traffic control plans utilizing safety techniques as required of the TxMUTCD.
- Identifies and informs Supervisor of potential hazards, liability exposures, problem areas, public inquiries, and the status of work activities.
- Is subject to covering / handling first-call or back-up call when assigned.
- Assist other Departments during emergencies, i.e., after accidents, traffic control, removal of property, and during special events.
- Regular attendance at work and arrives on time.
- Ability to get along with other employees and the public.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.Three (3) years of related construction, maintenance, and repair of Public Works Systems experience required.One (1) year of supervisory experience in the Public Works or construction industry.Class C Water Distribution License from TCEQ required.Class II Wastewater Collections License from TCEQ required.Texas Class B Commercial Driver's License, with Tanker Endorsement required.Must have and maintain a good driving record in accordance with the driver standards as established by the City of Murphy policy.Supplemental Information
Preferred QualificationsFive (5) years of related construction, maintenance, and repair of Public Works Systems experience required.Three (3) years of supervisory experience in the Public Works or construction industry.Special RequirementsMay be required to pass a drug screen and / or pre-employment job performance assessment.May be required to lift up to one hundred (100) pounds of equipment multiple times per day.May work extensive hours and must respond within forty-five (45) minutes to an on-call or emergency callback, as required. Employee will have six (6) months from employment date in which to relocate, if living outside the 45-minute callback range.
