Health Services Assistant (Support)

University Health Services (UHS) is seeking a candidate for a Health Services Assistant (Support) to work in the Utilization Management unit within University Health Services.

The primary role of this position is to obtain prior authorizations for patient appointments. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following :

• Verify health insurance information
• Obtain prior authorizations
• Provide Good Faith Estimates
• Communicate with patients about insurance coverage, benefits, and cost for services
• Prepare documents, meeting materials, correspondence
• Maintain confidential and sensitive information and materials
• Work closely with Patient Services and Clinical Services
• Answer phone calls
• Utilize the EMR system to access and update patient information
• Compose and edit written communication
• Other duties as assigned

The successful candidate will have excellent customer service and communication skills. Prior experience in a medical office is preferred.

Minimum Education, Work Experience & Required Certifications : General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or High School (HS) No prior relevant work experience required; previous relevant work experience accepted in lieu of education. Required Certifications : None

Background Checks / Clearances : This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks : PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Salary & Benefits : The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $34,800.00 - $50,500.00.
