Job SummaryThe School of Education and Behavioral Sciences at Middle Georgia State University is seeking candidates to serve as an Assistant or Associate Professor of Education with a primary focus on literacy instruction in P¿5 settings. This is a ten-month, tenure-track teaching and clinical position in the Teacher Education Program and reports to the Chair of Teacher Education and Social Work. The successful candidate will provide leadership in literacy coursework and field experiences and support the preparation of teacher candidates to teach reading and writing aligned with state literacy standards and current literacy initiatives.
ResponsibilitiesRequired Educational Qualifications
Terminal degree in literacy, reading education, or a closely related field with a clear literacy emphasis from an accredited institution (ABD considered if degree will be completed by the start date).
Required Experience
A minimum of five years of successful P¿5 classroom teaching experience, with demonstrated strength in reading and writing instruction.
Other Required Qualifications
Must have completed 18 hours in graduate-level literacy courses
Demonstrated knowledge of P¿12 literacy standards (e.g., Georgia Standards of Excellence in English Language Arts or comparable state standards) and the ability to align instruction and assessment with those standards.
Evidence of using data from literacy assessments (e.g., screeners, diagnostics, progress monitoring, and outcome measures) to inform instruction and intervention.
Strong oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated commitment to high-quality teaching, service, and scholarship in teacher education.
Preferred Experience
Experience in teaching in higher education
Experience in supervising teacher candidates
Experience as a cooperating teacher or an instructional coach
Experience in utilizing instructional technology
Other Preferred Qualifications
Trained in the Science of Reading
Possess a Reading Endorsement
Demonstration of a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarly endeavors
Teaching Support and Coaching Endorsement
Other educational endorsements such as Dyslexia, ESL, Math, STEM, Gifted, etc.
