Job description

Job Title : Applications Lab Technician

Job Description : Element Staffing is recruiting for an Applications Lab Technician for a major petrochemical company in Houston, TX. The lab technician will operate and perform minor maintenance of industrial scale polymer processing equipment in a safe, efficient, and timely manner for polymer testing and sample preparation to support projects. They will also safely handle chemical additives, polymer fluff and polymer pellets which includes the use of industrial forklifts.

Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Safe operation and maintenance of polymer processing equipment for applications in the polymer business lines.
  • Preparation of high quality application samples required for projects or to be sent out for customer evaluation.
  • Carry out the application testing programs (experimental designs) as directed by the Applications Lab Supervisors and Engineers.
  • On occasion, carry out the testing programs to provide demonstrations of polymer processing during customer visits as arranged by the Applications Lab Engineers and Technical Service.
  • Collect samples and make initial evaluations (e.g., noting color, gels, breaks, etc. in the processing; measuring thickness, denier)
  • Prepare and submit samples to the Analytical Group for testing as required by the application testing program.
  • Communicate with Applications Lab Engineers and Technical Service for the status of assigned testing programs and their results.
  • Inform the Supervisor – Film / Fiber / Compounding and Engineers of maintenance issues so that repairs can be determined and planned.
  • Manage the materials for the testing programs : obtain polymer samples required for the testing program (i.e., polyolefin pellets) and keep an orderly inventory of the application samples produced.
  • Maintain notebooks and logs for equipment operation and for samples.
  • Maintain equipment and working area in a safe and orderly manner.
  • Maintain tools and the “Critical Parts” inventory.

  • Compensation : DOE
  • Assignment Type : Long term contract, possibility of permanent hire
