Job Title : Head of Teaching and Learning
Department : Libraries | Executive Office
The Head of Teaching and Learning leads a team of professionals to develop, implement, and maintain a library-wide program of teaching and learning services and initiatives to support the curricular, co-curricular, and academic activities of Ohio State University faculty, researchers, and students. This includes overseeing learning outcomes, instructional content and programming, and the assessment of student learning and satisfaction; creating and implementing strategies that align teaching and learning activities with the University's priorities of access, affordability, and excellence. The role seeks opportunities to collaborate with campus units sponsoring teaching and learning initiatives and partners with offices such as OTDI / OSO, Drake Institute for Teaching & Learning, and the Office of Student Academic Success. The incumbent leads efforts to support undergraduate teaching and engagement, instructor development, and Ask Us services including peer-to-peer coaching, and works to advance relationships with colleagues across The Ohio State University Libraries. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Research and Education (R&E) and serves on the R&E division leadership team, R&E Heads.

Performance Objectives
Management and Supervision
Provide vision and manage the Teaching and Learning department through planning, leadership, assessment, and delegation.
Empower department members to make independent decisions at appropriate operational levels, and hold members accountable for successful completion of assignments.
Establish workloads, provide guidance and direction, monitor and evaluate performance, and coach and counsel as needed.
Work closely with other Research and Education department heads to advance an ambitious agenda for the division.
Teaching and Learning
Provide leadership and collaborate in the design, implementation, and maintenance of tools and services for online and in-person support for teaching and learning.
Establish or maintain relationships and engage in collaborative teaching and learning activities with high-priority partners across the university.
Develop innovative services and support for undergraduate information literacy and co-curricular engagement including affordability efforts, instructor development, and support for Ask Us services.
Provide oversight to the department around instructional and assignment design, develop effective instructional materials and sessions in a variety of formats, and provide alternative learning opportunities.
Engage in, facilitate, and encourage reflective teaching through the use of instructional improvement tools and concepts.
Support professional development for librarians and staff related to teaching and learning.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required :
An ALA-accredited master\'s degree, or a comparable graduate degree from a non-U.S. university, reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Experience providing services related to or knowledge of teaching and learning in higher education.
Successful record of management and administration of a department or service, with ability to articulate vision, set direction, and accomplish initiatives in rapidly changing environments.
Experience with learning management systems.
Experience building partnerships to enhance learning and student success.
Desired :
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, subject librarians, special collections, and others to advance student learning, faculty development, and innovation in teaching and learning.
Demonstrated expertise in instructional design, curriculum design, eLearning, and assessment or related skills.
Participation in any ACRL Information Literacy Immersion Program tracks or evidence of forward-thinking pedagogical approaches.
Additional Information
Salary and Benefits
The budget for this position is $90,000 to $110,000. The offer will be based on internal equity and qualifications.

Appointment
This is a full-time, regular, 12-month appointment as a tenure-track faculty member. Faculty rank (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor) is dependent on qualifications and experience. Candidates must meet university and Libraries requirements for promotion and tenure.
