George Fox University announces a tenure-track position in the School of Communication and Design with a specialization in graphic design to begin August 15, 2024. The committee seeks a working design practitioner with significant professional experience, as well as an understanding of the technical, critical, and theoretical issues in their relevant field.

Program / Department Mission Statement: The Department of Art and Design at George Fox University prepares students for positions of service and leadership by cultivating excellence within the fields of art and design. We emphasize the importance of Christ-centered spiritual formation, social responsibility, stewardship, and diverse discourse within the lives and professional practice of our students. We promote the broader academic values of inquiry, critical thought, experimentation, and innovation.
Our program prepares students to operate professionally within the field of art and design, engages students in critical analysis and response to contemporary visual culture, provides students with professional opportunities to launch their emergent practices, and promotes a programmatic vision to serve our community through the agency and transformational potential of the visual arts.
The work of our new colleague will include, but is not limited to:
- Teaching broadly in the design curriculum. This could include courses such as Web Design, UI/UX, Typography, Branding, Creative suite with emphasis on Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and Print and Packaging. The teaching load is 4 courses per term.
- Supporting our commitment to diverse voices and non-western population representation. The Art and Design program includes five non-western art and design history courses and commits to broad representation of practitioners of color over the entirety of the curriculum resources. Successful candidates should demonstrate a history of commitment to this ethos and/or a willingness to approach their teaching practice centering on these principles.
- Serving on university and department committees as well as undergraduate student advising.
- Other duties as assigned.

- By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.

Qualifications
- Terminal degree (MFA) in a relevant field is preferred. Non-tenure track appointments may be considered for candidates with extensive industry experience lacking a terminal degree.
- A minimum of 1-3 years experience teaching in art and design curriculum, with experience in applied graphic design.
- A commitment to working with a diverse population of students is essential; demonstrated experience in this area is preferred.
- Demonstrated success and or aptitude for remote, hybrid, and face to face instruction in studio, lab, and theory-based courses.
- All applicants must express a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a local church. In addition, employees agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.
- The program is also interested in candidates who have experience with or aptitude for the work of department chair or school leadership.

Priority consideration will be given to candidates who apply on or before January 15, 2024.
Salary and Rank
Appointment at the Assistant Professor level is anticipated, though candidates with significant teaching experience at previous institutions may be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor. Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions.
