EMPLOYMENT TYPE : Full-time, On-site
POSITION SUMMARY
Modern Government Solutions (MGS) is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to design, secure, and optimize the infrastructure powering large-scale Artificial Intelligence (AI) workloads. In this role, you will work with a diverse team to build and manage Kubernetes clusters, containerized workloads, CI / CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code solutions while ensuring security, reliability, and scalability. The Senior Platform Engineer will also lead technical initiatives, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate across engineering, operations, and security teams to deliver mission-critical solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to) :
- Technical Responsibilities
Design, deploy, secure, and maintain highly available Kubernetes clusters (EKS, AKS, GKE, OpenShift, or self-managed).
Build and manage containerized workloads with Docker and Kubernetes (Pods, Deployments, StatefulSets, Services, Ingress, etc.).Configure and optimize cluster networking, security, and performance (CNI, service mesh, RBAC, vulnerability scanning, tuning).Develop and maintain CI / CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab, GitHub Actions, Tekton, Argo) and apply GitOps methodologies (e.g., Argo CD).Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions (Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation, Helm, Kustomize).Automate operational tasks with scripting languages (Python, Go, Bash).Deploy and manage monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK / OpenSearch, Datadog, Splunk).Provide Linux / Unix administration and support core networking protocols (TCP / IP, DNS, HTTP, load balancing).Apply testing best practices (unit, integration, end-to-end) in platform and pipeline development.Leadership ResponsibilitiesLead technical initiatives and oversee delivery of complex projects.
Mentor junior engineers, promoting knowledge sharing and adoption of best practices.Collaborate across engineering, operations, and security teams to ensure project success.Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.Demonstrate proactive ownership in addressing issues and driving platform reliability.Foster adaptability and continuous learning within the team to keep pace with evolving cloud-native technologies.REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess an active Department of Defense (DoD) TS / SCI clearance with CI polygraph.Current IAM Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CAP, CASP) per DoD 8570 IAT requirements.7+ years of experience with Kubernetes (EKS, AKS, GKE, OpenShift, or self-managed), including cluster management, networking (CNI, service mesh), and security (RBAC, admission controls, vulnerability scanning).7+ years of Linux / Unix administration and troubleshooting distributed systems, with strong knowledge of networking protocols (TCP / IP, DNS, HTTP, load balancing).5+ years of experience in CI / CD pipeline development (Jenkins, GitLab, GitHub Actions, Tekton, Argo), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation, Helm, Kustomize), and automation scripting (Python, Go, Bash).5+ years implementing monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK / OpenSearch, Datadog, Splunk).5+ years of leadership experience, including mentoring and leading technical initiatives.Strong background in problem-solving, collaboration, and communication across cross-functional teams.Willingness to travel up to 20% for on-site support.PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Relevant certifications (e.g., CKA, CKAD, CKS, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert).Experience with GitOps methodologies and tools (e.g., Argo CD).Familiarity with logging and tracing frameworks for debugging and performance analysis.Deep knowledge of DevOps culture and SRE principles.Experience with Kubernetes operators, CRDs, or building internal developer platforms (IDPs).Background in designing and implementing Datacenter as a Service (DCaaS) solutions.Experience leading Authority to Operate (ATO) efforts and maintaining security compliance.Applicants selected will be United States citizens and may be subject to a government security investigation for access to classified information.ABOUT US
