Description

Truckee Meadows Community College, located in Reno Nevada, seeks an Assistant Director for Facilities Operations in the Facilities Operations, Design / Construction, Capital Planning, & Auxiliary Services Division.

This position reports to the Executive Director, and will be responsible for the stewardship of the college plant and facilities consisting of 715,000 square feet of classroom, lab, office, and general use space and 81 acres of land at multiple locations.

Duties will include supervision of four (4) section supervisors and approximately forty-five (45) staff in Custodial, Building Maintenance, Equipment, and HVAC operations, with budget and purchase responsibility for vendor contracts, equipment, and supplies.

Workload assignments may require evening and weekend obligations at all college locations : (Dandini Campus, William N. Pennington Applied Technology Center, William N.

Pennington Health Science Center, and Meadowood Center).

The Assistant Director of Facilities Operations plays a key role in overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the facilities operations department.

This position assists the Executive Director of Facilities Operations in planning, organizing, and directing the maintenance, repair, project management, and management of the organization's physical assets.

The Assistant Director ensures efficient and cost-effective operation of facilities, maintenance of a safe and functional environment, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction, management, facilities management, business management or a related field from an accredited institution and four (4) years of experience in operations and maintenance of facilities of comparable function, size and complexity.

Associate's degree in a related field and six (6) years of experience in fields related to facility management or operations and maintenance.

2. Strong knowledge of facility maintenance, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.

3. Excellent leadership and organizational skills.

4. Budget management and financial analysis experience.

5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Five (5) years supervisory experience of at least twenty-five (25) employees, including at least two (2) low to mid-level supervisors or managers.

2. Experience in governmental budgeting and purchasing.

3. Experience in a post-secondary educational institution.

4. Responsibility for annual budgets in excess of $1 million.

5. Demonstrated competence in technical report writing.

6. Experience with computerized maintenance management software.

7. Experience with commercial level energy management and ability to analyze energy and utility consumption patterns.

8. Experience with overall facility sustainability.

Responsibilities

1. Facilities Management : Assist in the overall management of the TMCC's facilities, including maintenance, repair, and improvement activities.

2. Supervision : Oversee the work of facilities operations staff, including maintenance supervisors, technicians, custodial teams, and other personnel.

Provide leadership, guidance, and performance management.

3. Strategic Planning : Collaborate with the Executive Director of Facilities Operations in developing and implementing long-term and short-term facilities management plans.

4. Budget Management : Assist in the development and management of the facilities operations department’s budget, ensuring cost-effective operations and resource allocation.

5. Maintenance Planning : Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to ensure the optimal functioning of equipment and systems.

6. Regulatory Compliance : Ensure compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations related to facility operations, safety, and environmental standards.

7. Project Management : Oversee and coordinate facility projects, facility operations initiatives, including budgeting, scheduling, quality control, and managing project triple constraints.

8. Energy Management : Implement energy-efficient practices and sustainability initiatives to reduce operational costs and environmental impact.

9. Vendor and Supplier Relations : Manage relationships with service providers, contractors, and suppliers to ensure cost-effective and high-quality service delivery.

10. Emergency Response : Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures to address facility-related crises and ensure the safety of occupants.

11. Reporting : Generate regular reports on facilities operations, maintenance activities, and project status for senior management and executive leadership.

12. Training and Development : Foster a culture of continuous improvement by providing training and development opportunities to the facilities team.

13. Customer Service : Ensure a high level of customer service to address facility-related requests and concerns from staff, faculty, and other stakeholders.

14. Perform other duties as assigned.

The Assistant Director will supervise the operations, activities and services of assigned programs. Monitor the hiring, orientation, workload assignment, and training, and performance evaluation of assigned classified staff.

Develop and implement staff development programs for all assigned employees. Monitor and measure the effectiveness of department operations programs.

Initiate and implement policies and procedures to maximize the effectiveness of departmental operations. Develop, conduct, and document programs for training of employees in work performance, preventing sexual harassment, performance evaluation, equipment in-service, etc.

Monitor inventory and requisition of materials, equipment and services. Establish procedures and protocol for control of division inventories.

Negotiate and execute service contracts in accordance with NSHE purchasing policies. Complete detailed reports, including, but not limited to audits, financial, and budgets.

Track and analyze energy consumption and make recommendations to lower utilization using a variety of software programs and benchmarking tools.

Analyze and manage overall effectiveness of the college's sustainability efforts including building and site "walk-through" to identify sustainability measures.

Serve on NSHE, TMCC and related committees and councils as required by the Executive Director. Demonstrate and maintain a sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic background at a community college.

Work in a professional and collegial manner with faculty, staff, students, and clients in the best interest of the college and the people it serves.

Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with the standards, mission, and goals of Truckee Meadows Community College.

Salary and Benefits Information :

Salary : $79,214 - $99,018 initial salary placement will be dependent on education level and years of experience.
