Recreation Program Coordinator
The pay range for this position is $24.01 to $26.50 per hour, based on experience. The City of Madison, Alabama, offers a $0 cost individual health / dental premium and retirement benefits.
Responsible for supervising recreation sports and camp programs, assists the Recreation Director / Assistant Recreation Director and other coordinators in programming sports, leisure and camp activities for the community as well as maintaining neatness of recreation areas operated by the city of Madison. Assume duties and responsibilities of the Recreation Director / Assistant Recreation Director and other coordinators in their absence. Position performs all responsibilities as needed within managing / supervising all sports and camp programs offered by the recreation department, assists in planning, promoting, organizing and development of recreational activities and programs.
Examples of responsibilities include maintaining adequate reports and records concerning programs, initiating and supervising safety measures on all activities, assisting with special events, reporting all disturbances to the Assistant Recreation Director and / or Recreation Director, supervising recreational aides and / or scorekeepers, advertising upcoming events, and serving as a positive role model for the campers and / or customers.
Program coordinators may be assigned primary coordination and management responsibility for either sports program coordination or camp director coordination. Sports program coordination includes checking and verifying sports equipment, coordinating gymnasium activities, and preparing and maintaining schedules for all gyms, gym managers, and scorekeepers. Camp director coordination includes ensuring compliance with state regulations, managing camp staff, planning and developing a curriculum / activities for the camp, and purchasing necessary items.
Job conditions include being able to work varying hours, extended hours, weekends, holidays, and at times with little or no notice, working in an environment where there are temperature fluctuations, noise, poor ventilation, dirt, dust, etc., and traveling for state association meetings, annual conferences, and possible sports program tournaments.
Minimal qualifications include a strong background record, experience working with the general public and children, a bachelor's degree in recreation, education, or related field, minimum of two years related experience, and a strong work history of dependability and performance. Program coordinators must also quickly obtain and maintain CPR / First Aid certification.
