Five Star Bank's Summer Associate Program is designed to develop the next generation of financial services professionals to help us advance our vision of being an independent, high-performing community bank. As a Mortgage Summer Associate, you'll play a key role in supporting the Mortgage team by assisting with loan processing, document review, customer service, and compliance activitieswhile also contributing to sales initiatives through lead generation, client outreach, and relationship-building efforts. This internship offers a dynamic opportunity to gain hands-on experience across the full mortgage lending lifecycle within a community banking environment, blending operational insight with front-line exposure to customer engagement and growth strategies.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with mortgage loan application processing, including document collection and verification
• Assist in generating mortgage leads through client outreach, community engagement, and referral follow-ups, while supporting the sales team in promoting loan products and cultivating relationships with prospective borrowers.
• Support the review of loan files to ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements
• Help coordinate communication between borrowers, loan officers, and underwriting teams
• Assist in preparing loan disclosures and closing documentation
• Contribute to pipeline management and tracking of loan status updates
• Participate in quality control and audit activities related to mortgage lending
• Support special projects aimed at improving mortgage operations and customer experience

What We're Looking For:

• Currently pursuing a degree in Business, Finance, or a related field.
• Candidates must be available to work a hybrid work model, 40 hours per week for the duration of the program starting in June.
• Occasional travel within corporate footprint (Buffalo and Rochester) will also be required.
• At least 1 year in one or more club(s), volunteerism efforts, or other activities outside of the classroom
• Sales Acumen Understanding mortgage products and effectively communicating their value to potential borrowers.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Interest in mortgage lending, real estate finance, or banking operations
• Self-starter with a collaborative mindset and attention to detail
• Curiosity, initiative, and a desire to learn in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrate the standards and principles of the Five Star Bank experience in every interaction with internal customers, associates, and stakeholders. Incorporate the high-performance behaviors of teamwork, leading by example and serve in every facet of work.

Compensation offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education and, where applicable, licenses or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to your base rate of pay and a competitive benefits package, successful candidates may be eligible to receive cash or equity-based incentives based on the role and performance.
